Barrie Speedway is a member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series for the Ontario Provincial and continental championships, and hosts a NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race. It has three home divisions: Late Models, Thunder Cars and Pure Stocks.

The track underwent major upgrades in 2004 which included upgrades to seating, pits and a full resurfacing and partial reconfiguration of the racing surface into its present short track tri-oval.

He wrote, "During our last NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race we had a brief glimpse of Talledega Super Speedway, when the #39 Dodge of Dave Whitlock, went for a Tumble down the front stretch. Dave Whitlock was not injured in the crash."
