You can camp inside the track down in 3 and 4 with a tent, cheap but wild!!!
Welcome to the board from north of the border also:)

I am in Hamilton, and always do I-75, because of the weather, and services along the way.
I 77 is very desolate in places and not a lot of services.
You also have to consider the weather, you do not want to go throught the mountains in the north, hence why 75 is better.
Where are you at?

I guess another question would be,is there camp grounds in the area that we could go to?We can get tickets down there from a friend for the front stretch for all the races, and I am a avid angler and want to fish the piers.

Well to answer my own question. Found a spot 4 miles from the track.Seems KOA has bought this camp ground.

If you can try to get into turns 3 and 4, its wild and crazy, but you will love it:)
What KOA did you find?

You have to buy the package to stay in the track to camp. That mean the tickets.
There are a few campgrounds in the area.
The one of the closest campgrounds is located right behind the track, its only open during the events. Its called Race Track RV Park (http://www.freewebs.com/racetrackrvpark/index.htm), the number is 1-877-787-2246.
Another campground is the KOA on International Speedway Blvd, about 1.5 miles west of the track. Its called Daytona Speedway KOA (http://www.daytonaspeedwaykoa.com) their number is 1-800-562-5412. We actually stayed at this park, they have shuttles that will pick you up and drop you at the track so you don't have to fight the traffic yourself and you can enjoy yourself more.
And yet another is Daytona Beach KOA (http://www.daytonabeachkoa.com), they are about 4 or 5 miles from the track but they also offer a shuttle to get you there and back. Their number is 1-800-562-5856.
Happy Camping!

Make sure you bring some warm clothes, can get cold during Feb in Daytona, especially if you are tent camping. But since you are from the Great White North it might not bother you much. Since you want to get out and go fishing and stuff, you might be better served camping at a place outside of the speedway instead of the infield. Not sure what facilities for tent campers the Race Track RV Park would have since it is only open during race time. I would probably suggest the Daytona Speedway KOA. It is a nice park, however am not sure they accept Tent Campers, best bet is to call around to them now. Make sure you find out if they accept Tent Campers, and if so do they have showers etc you can use.

Another option is the Speedweeks campground http://www.speedweekscampground.com/ (http://www.speedweekscampground.com/) We have tent and RV camped there for several years and it is both a resonable price and also good location to the track. They say it is "1 mile away", but that must be "as the crow flies". You are located right off I-95 and can see the track but the airport is between you and the track. Forget the campground shuttle to and from the track on raceday unless the line is short. You can walk across the street and catch a bus in the normal parking area. If you ride the buses back, it is well organized but they move a LOT of people so it can take a while. Either get out of the track and into the bus line or, if you wait around and "slowly" get there, you will wait hours before getting out. It (and the speedweeks campground shuttle) drops you off on the backstretch at turn 3 so if you have tickets for the frontstretch you will still have to catch one of the "people mover" shuttles to get you around to the front. Big track, only the brave decide to walk around it. Hope that helps
