Hi,
I am going to Martinsville in a couple of weeks with my new travel trailer. Anyone have any suggestions? I have never been to that track. Can I show up on Saturday and get a spot? The track website says that no reservations are needed.

There are many, many camping sites at Martinsville. Try going around to the back entrance, as you have better access to the spots from there. It's the Hwy 558 bypass going North. There's a back gate on the west side of the highway. The sites are behind turns 3 and 4. Try not to get too close to the railroad tracks!

Oh, mud can be a problem. The ground is rolling hills down to a river.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to stay away from the mud, especially with my tow vehicle.

We had a good time at Martinsville. We arrived just before the start of the truck race on Saturday. We were told by a policeman that the track camping was full but we could try the private "campgrounds". Since we just wanted a spot for one night, we took the first one available. It was difficult getting into this guy's back yard, but once there it was fine. The owner let us fill up our water tank and was very nice. It cost the same as the track campground. We were very close to the entrance, about 200 yards from the souvenier trailers. We packed up during the rain delay, then walked back to our seats to watch the finish. We waited for some traffic to leave then left Sunday night.
I would stay at the same place again, except I'd reserve a spot that was more level. I'll try to send pictures soon.
