I understand that there are no in and outs once in the red zone but was told that there is a handicapped parking area just outside the track where we would be able to park a toad for the week ( my freind is handicapped in that he can only walk limited distances and has a Handicapped sticker). My first thought was that there would be ample public trans avail to get us around but are there any benefits to bringing a toad? The couple that is traveling with us in their RV seem to think that we would need a car. I would prefer not to tow but would consider it if there are any real benefits.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I suppose that it depends on where you really want to go outside of the track. I used to live up there and while there is "public trans" buses etc, its not like the large cities, you might want to check out this site
http://volusia.org/votran/ its the bus systems website. You could get an idea of schedules and routes etc. of course there are usually taxi's around the speedway but can be pricy depending on where you want to go. On Sat and Sun you aren't going to want to leave the speedway because traffic will be a zoo all weekend. Let me know where you are planning on goin outside of the track and when and I'll give you some more of my opinions

The in and out is referring to your rv not your tow if it is, it is not enforced, if they are trying to make that a law then it is pretty silly.

Thanks for the replies. My guess is that we would only be going downtown Daytona and maybe to the Mall across the street so I don't see the reason to pull a toad from NY to Fl just for that. Is there bus service to the downtown area from the track and is it too jammed to use during the week?
Also, my paperwork indicates that once in the infield the toad cannot leave unless we are staying in the Lake Lloyd premium sites. We are in the red area.

Thanks again,
Pete

you should call the track on that, I know a lot of people in the reds that go in and out.

but yes, Volusia mall is right across the street you can walk everywhere, Super Target also.

Since your friend is handicapped you might want to bring along a wheelchair for them, or better yet an electirc scooter maybe. The Mall is not that far across the street, but for someone who is handicapped it would be a difficult walk from the infield to there and back., So a wheerchair or scooter would help out alot. Using the Bus to go downtown will be an issue, I'd advise considering your circumstances, to do the cab thing downtown. Would run around $15.00 each way most likely depending on traffic (meter still runs even if you are stuck in traffic) They are always lirking around by Daytona USA (the tunnel entrance at turn 4). Folks with vehicles in areas other than Lake Lloyd are NOT supposed to be able to drive their tow vehicles in or out once they are inside the track. Might not have been really enforced over the years but would not be surprised if it is this year. Like mr Camping says call the speedway to verify.
