I was finally able to purchase tickets for RIR and would like some information on tent camping near the speedway. I know the speedway does not allow this. But would like some info on Pop Odoms and other areas within a couple of miles. I saw the listings on Laidbackracing.com, but want more information about the sites themselves.

Not sure about the place you mentioned, but if I were tent camping I would drive around the speedway property and look for one of the homes that border the track. When I was there it may have be 30-50 homes that had tents and camper in there yards. This is almost on the speedway property, you can't get closer than this.

Our group is camping, but the tent is huge. We will have 2 vehicles, a 20x10 tent and possibly a couple of shade canopies. Just looking for some ideas as to what might be the best area. Looking for a lively area, but would like to be able to get to sleep by 2. Any info you can provide would be helpful.

Try the Azalea Flea Market. It's on the back side of the track, not too far of a walk.

I've never been to Richmond, but was considering it. I read that its in a bad neighborhood?
Does the Flea Market have showers?

ok...for those of us that didn't know...
A "Pop Odums" campground, is a campground that is NOT owned/operated by the speedway.

Anybody stayed at strawberry hills and/or azalea flea market. Differences? Opinions?
