Maybe I missed something, somewhere, but I don't understand the "Rookies Tailgate" slogan. Hopefully, someone will explain this to me.

*peeking in*
To be honest, I don't "get it" either. I thought it had to be me seeing as nobody else commented on it! LOL I've tried saying it different ways, looking at it different ways but never managed to figure it out!
I'm sure Melissa will fly on in and give us a good techsplanation of it all. :)

The way we see it is that Rookies Tailgate (like out of the back of their truck, car, etc...) ... we party ... since we camp at Nascar races. That's our take anyhow - we could be wrong but I like it. - Gina

I like that...my interpretation was more like....Rookies are always at the back of the pack therefore tailgaiting the leaders.....Hence...Rookies tailgate!!! LOL!
It's catchy....who cares....LMAO!!!

Ok, I understand the "Tailgate" association with partying out of the back of the car, truck, etc., but most NASCAR fans that camp at the tracks are not "rookies". So, I'm lost as to the gist of the slogan.

The "yellow bumper" goes way back on this site and thus I believe we tried to use that angle in our slogan with the whole rookie thing (also being the rookie season for this forum). The tailgating is just a big part of what camping at races is all about. I mean on any given race weekend we spend more time camping than NASCAR spends racing. Plus it is cool because it not only catches people attention but also gets people to stop and ask about it.

That is the way that I take it also. Rookies are the one's that use there tailgate after the race. Then leave after the crowd is gone. Nascar Campers most of the time try to get there before the Race and dont leave until it is dun. The first ones there and the last ones to leave. Heck, I know at TMS they are there a week before.

Maybe the slogan should have been "The Never-Ending Tailgate".LOL

I think the meaning behind it is " Rookies Tailgate" meaning they go a football game with the trucks etc.. for a 1 day event, and hence the reference to tailgating.
Us on the other hand are at an event like Daytona on the infield for up to 12 days, and in the middle of the event, which is unknown and impossible for all the others sports out there.
Hence the term.
Thats my interpretation anyways, but heck you can think what you want and interpret it differently like the rookies tailgate following the leaders, that I never thought of before, but its also true:cool:
Once we go through all the flags and sell them, if members want we can start another contest for another slogan, all that I ask is people to pm me directly with their suggestions and not make it a permanent post.
We are already on about our 5th t shirt design also.
What I would ask though is that since we have not ordered the t shirts yet, if there is this much debate over the design, then maybe we need to readdress the overall concept totally.
I dont mind spending the money to buy the shirts, but if they are not wanted then we need to rethink the design and come up with something everybody wants and understands. No hard feelings from me, I just want everyone happy:-D
As I write this my phone rang and it was a forum member whom came up with another version of what " Rookies Tailgate" means, he interprets it as " Rookies tailgate my car so hang back" and dont tailgate......
That was interesting as I never thought of it as that before:-|
So, there you go, multiple meanings, to multiple people.
Some day in 20 years it will no doubt be a very popular topic of discussion around someones campfire no doubt, and will lead to some wagering of bets.
I can see already beers and ribs being lost by the loser of the bet.
But then again, what is the real meaning of the slogan:twisted:
I think this was all planned, whats that noise outside?
Oh.... the black helicopters are circling again........

Ahh...the mystique!
I think we should leave it like it is. The fact that it is so unusual will bring people in that are trying to figure it out.

Aaahh....I get the whole interpretation of the fact that we aren't rookies....hadn't looked at it that way before!
Not an indication that it should be changed - you'll never get everyone to agree - majority rules IMO!

I dont wont to change it... Heck, I am planing on having fun this year with that YELLOW Strip on my bumper this year. Next year I wont be a ROOKIE. Maybe we need a Rookie of the YEAR Award!!!!

Okay...I guess I need to put my "two cents" worth in on this subject...
Okay the "Rookies Tailgate..." was a thought I had in my head after I strolled through the campgrounds and saw the elaborate set ups that people have, (i.e. campers, decorations, flags, etc etc). Then we drove over to the front stretch parking lot. There were people tailgating with their "set ups" and I said to myself "rookies".
The seasoned, dedicated and experienced Nascar Fans show up days before the event set up and camp...the "rookies" show up a few hours before and tailgate...
I guess leaving it open ended with the "..." leaves it up to an individual interpretation.
I am not saying my slogan is the best...but I do believe in continuity. If we jump ship now...we are losing momentum. This place is finally on a role...keep in mind our "slogan" is going to be hitting the high banks of Daytona this weekend...as well as Flying over the Campgrounds when our other members arrive.

I agree with melissa on all of her points. And my interp of our slogan is same as her's . We are just starting to get momentum going with our slogan,. Keep it as it is. It can mean whatever it needs to to anyone. The fact is it provokes thought and that is what you want to do.

Thanks mellissa, now I am going to remove this post because I want to win the debate in 20 years from now on how the slogan " Rookies Tailgate" started:p
Oh, by the way a HUGE Public thankyou to mellissa for everything she has done with this:mrgreen:

i See It As "rookies" Are The Day-trippers And We Are The Vetrans. I Also Like Calling The Football Fans "rookies", Because They Think They Know How To Tailgate. I Always Tell My Friends That Go To The Eagles Games And Tailgate This - You Guys Go Full- Bore For Four Hours. Try Going Full-bore For Four Days !

It's working....It's working......Everyone has a different view of what the slogan means...Isn't that the whole point of it all....I mean, it generates intrest, questions and makes people interested in what this place is....I say let's leave Melissa's hard work alone....This is the perfect slogan for the Nascar Rookies....The'll flock to your motorhomes at Daytona asking about the flag for sure....I garanty it!
After a year of so....Maybe it would be a great idea to follow it up with a slogan that will "complete" the Rookies Tailgate......Maybe something like...." And Veteran's have the lead" or "Veteran's own these" or even "Follow the leader"...It all depend on what way you all choose to go wioth it???
I love the present slogan and the way every one is going with it....It will look fantastic on National T.V from Daytona !!!
Thank you Everyone !

There's always yellow duct tape. We considered doing that last year (our first with a trailer), but just never got around to it.

I dont think that Steve would let me paint a stripe on my bumper but, I will see what I can do. I haven't got that bumper sticker on mine yet. Each time we pull it out I forget about the sticker. Then when we put it up Steve backs it as close to the garage door as he can get it. But, I will get it there.

Thought this was funny...Came across this forum and look at the Post by
MISSU3 of Fort Worth, Texas on Feb. 11, 2008.
"I'd have to say baseball is 4th after NASCAR, football, basketball. You guys that only pack 40 to 60 thousand into football games are rookies. Tailgate for a week BEFORE the game with 160,000 of your closest friends....then you got an event. "

My Opinion, the Flag should be a permanent fixture, but the Shirts could be a by the season thing. Each season we have a new shirt. Just a thought.
Hey boss did you get my Check?
