Hello Mr Technician or anyone else who might be able to help...I have a problem with my fridge. It wants to light on gas and does. It will run great for a hour or two and then it shuts down and doesn't light again. It runs great on gen or shore power but I don't want to run my 3500/4000watt champion generator for 14 hours a day while at infineon this year. We upgraded from a old tent trailer so reefers and heaters are new to me. I know the fridge needs to be serviced. My problem is I'm a disabled veteran on a limited fixed income so money is tight. Is this service something I can do? If so, is there a manual I could buy or a site I could visit or at the minimum someone who could walk me through the steps? This is a old Dometic RM763 AES fridge in a 1984 Alpenlite24 fifth wheel. I have other things that need work like the heater but I'm more worried about the fridge at this point.

Thank you to all,

Rick

Thanks for the suggestion Nascar#3 but this is a "1984" alpenlite and the fridge is original. I don't think the recall goes back to 1984. My model isn't listed in the drop down menu either.
Anyone else? Mr. Tech?

If my memory serves me right that unit is fairly basic. What I had a problem with in our old M/H , was a very fine rust , almost like sand fell down from the inside of the chimeny into the burner assy. By removing the wind cover from the burner you are able to get access to use a vaccuum to suck out this residue ."MAKE SURE THAT YOU SHUT OFF THE MAIN PROPANE VALVE AT THE TANK" before working on the fridge. This was one of the small problems that we had with our older RV fridge. Just running down the road will make small flakes of rust fall into the burner area. Hope this helps.

I love the suggestions...now which part is the ceramic pilot heater? lol I'm not stupid with mechanical things but I've never worked on a fridge before and need diagrams or a helpful finger pointing things out to me. If you want to know what part on a racecar is and where it's at ask me. I can identify those parts as I've pitted on one for years.lol I never owned a trailer with a reefer or heater before. Just a old (89) coleman tent trailer with only a converter and one light bulb in it. Playing with propane and 110volt electricity is not something I've done a lot with. The plumbing is easy but the rest isn't. Thanks again for the help. I love sites like this with people who are willing to help without flaming.

this fridge is first generation electronic ignition and auto switching parts are almost impossible to find first i would get the burner and flue cleaned out then remove all connectors on the power board and clean them with a electrical cleaner spray and see if it works there is not to many places that will work on those old fridges dometic has a web site that may help and your fridge is not in the recall
