Who is Going to Atlanta

This will be our first trip to Atlanta also our first trip in our New/Used Motorhome. Any Tip? Where is everyone camping at? I am going to be in the Infield dont know yet what spot but I am sure she will tell me soon.
Where and when would everyone like to meet at. Do we need to drag a car behind us are is there somewhere around there that we might could rent one?

Atlanta Tips and Tricks
1. Do not buy Ice from the Ice man unless you are too drunk to drive & get some. ($3-$5 a bag)
2. Free SH!t Friday: I know you guys know about this. You can do it on Saturday too. This is where you walk around the main gate and get free stuff from the vendors. This is especialy good for me as I dip and there are always free dip samples being handed out with proof of age. Marlboro fed me lunch last year.
3. Take the trams around the track. You can get anywhere around the track via tram, unless you just want to walk. Example: If you were to want to meet at our site for Lunch Saturday afternoon (or dinner which hopefully will be smoked hog) you could take the tram from the infield to the shower house & freshen up & then over to outside unreserved. (saves about a mile walk)
4. Resturants that are close are Wendys & Waffle House. Both of those stay busy on race weekends. There are some other choices both North and South on 19-41.
5. Beware the sunglass man and the t-shirt guy! Good deals but don't let the po-po see you as 9 out of 10 times these are counterfit items being sold without a permit on racetrack property. Oh...I have seen the deaf guy handing out the card thing too. (Be wary when he looks you in the eye and says thanks anyways!):shock:
6. Don't be afraid to call me (pm me for number) if you have any questions.

Just say a time.I will be going into the races on sat.So early is good for me.

Another tip is If you can take your shower on sat. night.
Security is CRAZY Sunday morning.Unless you know the tricks its hard to get to the shower.They have all the roads blocked:mad:
I go Sunday morning early.We have figured out how to get around them.
Our site is right across from the Elliot Grandstand.We buy the weekend special 99$ SO we are very close to the track.About 10 min walk to our seats.That beats where we use to park when we did not camp.On the dirt road by the air strip.Now that was a walk.But we got out fast.
Also if you want a tee shirt of the Atlanta Race wait until the race is over 5$
Where we camp is 60$ also.It is nice.They are a few bands and some good folks.We see the same people every year.

Its kinda hard to explain.
We are over by the small shower/rr Tent section.
If you go past the bathroom it will be on your right and a fence running along the road where the tents are.Well when that road ends you take a right. And the camping area is on the left hand side of the road. it is actually private property.There are several vender's set up at the entrance where you pull in. Does this make any sense?

I agree Gale...I hooked up with NorthShore and Shirley at Texas this past fall. It worked out great for NorthShore and his girlfriend, as they didn't take a tow vehicle, so they called and I went down picked them up, and took them to the crendentials office, and went back and forth to the track a few times...It is nice to know that you can have "people" there that can help out when needed...and fill in the gaps!! Awesome!!

We left Friday and returned Monday night.

I went by the track yesterday. You know, it is kinda depressing when there is no one there. :( I can't wait till you can see the smoke drifting over the campground, the smell of ribs and bbq, the taste of ice cold draft beer. :rolleyes: There are few things in this world that compare.

Wendy and I aren't sure what our plans are as of now. We have Bristol the next weekend and doing 2 weekends in a row can be rough. :wink:

Last fall we ended up working security at the media center, which was very cool but made for a couple of very long days. Luckily we didn't have any problems with Kasey, although his brother doesn't bother to keep his credentials on him. 8-)

We'll keep tabs on the thread, and would definitely like to meet up with with you all if we are down that direction.

It is a Circle K store.They are putting new tile in most of the stores and we have the account.SOOO there is no putting them off a few days.Now we have to re-group and figure out what we are going to do about our tickets.
We normally buy the weekend tickets.But now Scott and Justin will only need Sunday tickets.

I guess it could be worse.But if you only new how upset Scott and Justin were. They LOVE going to the track.Scott and Just will go in when the gates open every day and stay all day.

i am so going to have to stop reading these threads. i want to come to all the races and just can't get there from here!!!!

i was in atlanta last week at our corp office. my boss's mom tells me! If you pay for the camping spot i will bring our motorhome (and it's a big one) and park it for you and then come back and get it after the race! :razz: i almost fainted! so i'm all over this and get on the net and find that the race is the weekend that the boss will be in texas visiting all of my properties!!!!!!!!!! DAMN IT. but hey, maybe i can see the fall race!! i'm thinking about just going from dega to lowe's to martinsville and then to atlanta. of course the first 3 races will be done from my chevy van with the atlanta being done in luxury!!! since i can work from anywhere as long as i have a cell phone then i maybe able to make this work! the boss is even ok with it!!:lol:

I sent an email to the track this morning. They said they don't currently offer it, but it is something they are discussing doing in the future.

There's a Chik-Fil-A a little north of the track, and I believe they all offer free access (you have to sign up for an account). But I don't remember if you'll have access to a vehicle, so this may do you no good.

Anyone have any other ideas for Shirley .. don't want her to go into 'net withdrawal. :cool:

I know it rained a few races back and the unreserved section was a mud hole.Lots of sites were under water.

People were bringing in bailes of hay.
Where we are seems like a good spot to keep dry.
We are on a hill with grass.

I hope you can dry the place out.

As wet as this morning was, we got lucky. We got to the track around 6:30 am in the rain, but it ended after a couple of hours and the rest of the day was fine. A few sprinkles off and on tonight, but nothing horrible. Not looking forward to tomorrow with temps dipping down into the 20's and a slight chance of flurries .. but I'd rather be a little chilly than wet.

Wendy and I had a chance to spend a few minutes with Shirley and see their new coach. I've got a pic of Wendy and Shirley on the cellphone, I'll get it uploaded soon. Hopefully the timing works out for us tomorrow and we'll get to meet more of the group. If we miss the group pic, we will definitely hunt down Bubba's campsite. :)

Going to pas out now. 6:30am to 10:30pm today, with a couple of short breaks and tomorrow we are to be at the track at 6am. Who in the world will need to be at the media center at 6am??? :shock:

Bubba - sorry we never made it over. I was looking forward to seeing the bar. :p

We met up with a friend of ours and his 7 year old son and at the Nationwide race and went back to our campsite. We thought they'd stay for a quick dinner and a s'more or 2, then they'd leave and we'd be down to see you all. But, they ended up staying quite a bit later than we expected, and after a few drinks the chair and fire just felt a little too good to leave. :)

Steve and Shirley said you guys were having a good time .. and that they saw some good stuff. :shock: ;)

Got to meet Bubba and his wife.Shirley and Steve.It was very very Cold Saturday so we did not hang out to long at Bubba's place we had a big group back at out site so we could not be gone for to long.

We had a good visit with Steve and Shirley last night. I picked them up at the tunnel and brought them back to our place and we hung out by the fire and got to know each other better.When Scott and I took them back all the security was gone so we got to drive them back to there motor home and see the new ride.They are on there way to Dega to visit the Museum.
Great weekend.The race was kinda boring but Jeff finished 5th.
We feel good no hang overs for us:mrgreen: I'll never tell what Bubba used for a cup:shock: Hope you feel better soon Bubba.

We started out the weekend with a vehicle pass to get in and out of the tunnel and had every intention of shuttling Steve and Shirley out to meet everyone. I wonted to make a note on Atlanta. For those people who attend the fall race at this track. Atlanta Motor speedway has it on Channel on TV. You can see the race live on Channel 22. Just Disconnect your DirectV and turn it to the Channel. And also You Can Not get DirectV Local Networks. Meaning I could Not Get the Dallas Channels in Atlanta. I could get everythings else but not Local's.

I was on my home from work when one of those crazy people bound for Bristol came over on my side of the road about two weeks ago. They were in fact towing a popup camper and I had to swerve off the road hiting a oppossum and throwing my newly repaired computer out of the back of my truck and onto the interstate below. I was writtena ticket and watched as the popup pulled off into the sunset. My anger at seeing the "Rookies tailgate..." bumper sticker on the back of the popup made me boycot the site. Sorry, but I want to know who this was.
