was going to order the champion from cabelas it is on sale for $299 but after shipping and the wheel kit it came to about $400 but for another $300 i got more power 4500watt and remote start and a cover The remote start is worth the extra $ in its self. let me know how you like the Champion did you get gas or the propane model

Yeah, I ordered mine from Cabela's and the shipping was a bummer.:-( I looked around local and couldn't find anything comparable and just couldn't afford the Honda. If I would have known about that deal before I bought it, I may have bought that one. Don't know though, the Champion is only 100 lbs and will run along time on a tank of gas. I think I will be satisfied with it.

Nope, closest is in Indy, 100miles...with gas prices and then you have to eat out ,and that is even if they have one, I just bit the bullet for Cabela's.

There are 2 Costco locations on the north side of Indy.

keeping in mind, i am on a tight budget, what is the minimum wattage that I would need to run. I saw a generator at walmart for like $175 for 1000watts but i just dont know if that is enough?

if your gonna run air you need at least 3000minuium this one is 4500 can run air and microwave at same time 3000 cant run both at same time if on a tight budget go with the Champion from Cabelas its on sale for $299 has a 30amp rv plug type in 28flat under promo codes it knocks a couple bucks off. i think the whole package from Cabelas Generator Wheel kit and s&h was $372

Adam,

You could check out Costco if it's close. Also heard they had them at Home Depot, but I did not see it on the website or at our local store.

I ordered from Cabela's, $380 with wheel kit and shipping and taxes. I think it was well worth it.

I would have spent over $100 just going to Indy to see if they had one at Costco's.

Anita

PS. I have a 1100W we bought at Big Lots for $125. It will work great for spring races, but got to have AC for the Indy race.

I've had my champion 3500/4000 watt C46540 RV ready genset for over a year now and love it! Runs my AC, microwave, converter, television, directv dvr box, laptop, several lights and fridge all at the same time without dipping below 110 volts of power. I bought mine at Kragen auto supply. They have a online sister store called www.partsamerica.com (http://www.partsamerica.com) and at one time if a person used the code geicoten they got 10% off the order but that offer might be dead. The price of the genset is 299.00+ S/H. Most report a shipping charge of about $50.00. The big deal about the champion is the company customer service department. It's a american owned company with their own plant in china and they only make champion power equipment. They have gotten tons of reviews about their customer service and I've yet to see a bad one. If one is interested in a long read about these 3000 tom 4000 watt gensets here's a link to a huge thread. It started out being about other gensets but is now more of a "pro" champion thread.
http://www.rv.net/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/15131645/srt/pa/pging/1/page/256.cfm

Unfortunately the duro power brand has gotten a "F" when it comes to customer support with most saying there isn't "ANY" support at all. They don't even answer the phone. The gensets have been deemed nice units but the company itself hasn't been.:D

Rick

PS. A link at rv.net is what brought me to this site.

Another nice bit of info on the Champion Generator is that they are the company that makes the power plant for Hobart welders. Having used Hobart for years at work, I trust the quality and reliability of their power plants, ie, generators.

Fed ex called and said they cant find my address and wont re deliever till fri isnt that some BS!!! thats what you get with ups and fed ex FED UP!!!!! it the same driver all the time i think he dosent want to unload 120lb generator he must be off on Fri.

come on now, easy on ups. I think fed ex has delivery commitment guarantees, I would contact the shipper tell them it didn't make it's transit time and you want a shipping charge refund. Most shipping companies will only refund the shipper not the receiver so the shipper has to persue the claim but if you have a good address why not press the issue. Also I would call the fed ex center and talk to a supervisor and let them know you expect it the next day. You paid for a service and you should get that service.

went back and looked at your original post "free shipping" so much for the refund. I'd still light a fire under the sups. ass to get your delivery sooner.

unfortunatly, fed ex ground is a contractor set up where the driver of a route usually ownes the truck. So that being said it's basically running your own buisness and some poeple just don't run their buisness well. You have a right to have your package delivered in a timley manner.

Hey guys just a quick note on the champion generator. Advance Auto Parts is also connected with Partsamerica. I have ordered parts from them online before and picked them up at my local store with no shipping costs. I am going to try and order one in the coming weeks and will try to pick up at the store. I will let you know how I make out.

Hiya,
it's a Champion generator, I would think that it would be quit enough, yes, I think that it's only a few (3 to 7 ) decibles over the Honda. But to be sake bring three little pieces of plywood to redirect the sound....Makes a huge difference.

I don't know if they are in areas other than the south, but Tractor Supply carries the Champion Gen for around $300. They also have their own warranty to go along with it. The noise is a louder than a honda, but you will never notice it at the racetrack. I built a 4 sided plywood box with sound deadening material on the inside that clips together and tears down for easy travel. It cost me about $30 to build. Cheaper than a honda!
Good luck, see you in Texas.

Remember that the dB scale is logarithmic. So when you say a generator is 2-7 dB over a honda, that is a lot, almost double.

If you build a four sided plywood box around a generator, how does it cool?

for another generator choice, I've got the Kipor 3000, which if you look at it, looks like a Honda but is yellow, and is supposed to be 80+% Honda replaceable parts (yup, its a Honda knock-off). I've had mine running side by side with the Honda 3000 and you can barely tell the difference in noise. When I got mine, it was $600 - $700 less than the Honda. Its worth checking out.

I agree with Madfinnhockey, I have seen several these at the campgrounds. they do sound very quiet.

I saw them when they first came out They were cheap $700-$900 now there around $1000 - $1300 still cheaper than the Honda

just as an fyi, I've had great luck with my Kipor. In Dec. we lost power for about a week due to some heavy ice storms, and I ran the Kipor about 16 hours a day for the duration with no problems at all, just kept it gassed and changed the oil once.

Hey guys - I'm headed out to buy a Kipor 2000 generator tomorrow, unless anyone has any other suggestions to change my mind. After researching here and other places, seems like a great value compared to the Hondas. Glad I saw this thread.
