Riverside Speedway is located in James River, between New Glasgow and Antigonish, next to Trans Canada Highway 104 at exit 30.

I have spent considerable time contemplating how I would list our jewel of the North and there is nothing I can put in text that will do justice to this facility.

The best way to describe this 1/3-mile high bank asphalt oval to you is through picture so please follow the link below to appreciate this facility.

No the website is not mine. I only wish I had the ability and time to maintain such a web site. But we here in the Maritimes are very proud of "our" site.

The name CheckersToWreckers came from a saying used by a very popular racers here in the Maritimes, Scott Frasher who passed away in 2004 in a tragic snowmobile accident.
Scott would often say "checker or wrecker". Scott not only run here in the Maritines and New England but he also run a limited ASA schedule.

JAMES RIVER, NS (April 1, 2009) – Riverside International Speedway has confirmed one of NASCAR’s top drivers as entering the 2009 edition of the IWK 250 Presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body on July 18. David Reutimann, currently 11th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings, will pilot a car fielded by Antigonish’s Nova Racing as a teammate to regional racers Donald Chisholm and George Koszkulics.
We are also in hopes that the defending winner Regan Smith will also return.

I was in Halifax on business in November and remember seeing that track right by the airport. In fact I stayed at the hotel right there by the track. It looked really nice. You should be proud.

The track next to the airport is Scotia Speedworld a nice track and close to home, but now where near the caliber of the Riverside track.

It was great to finally here some news from Riverside Speedway. Getting David Reutimann is great and I really hope Regan Smith comes back to defend his win - great guy and a class act all the way!
I have to say I'm a little concerned, but not surprised to hear that the Dodge Dealers have not come back to sponsor the Nascar Canadian Tire Series event at Riverside in September....

"Riverside Speedway, April 2nd - The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will return to Riverside in 2009 but management is looking for a new Title Sponsor after learning that Atlantic Dodge Dealers will not return in 2009. The event is a Nationally Televised event on TSN and RDS . Any company out there interested can contact us at 1-902-863-9614."

It'll also be intersting to see how the "trucks" evolve in the weekly racing at Scotia Speedworld...

"Scotia Speedworld will be allowing competitors to build ¼ ton trucks to race in the Weekly Hobby Stock Division for the 2009 season. Allowable models will include regular wheel base Chevrolet’s (S-10/S-15), Ford Ranger, Dodge Dakota and similar models. Trucks must be built to the current Hobby Stock rules with the option of a four point roll cage. These trucks will evolve into a new division as the Hobby Stock class is phased out. The new Truck division for the future will see the trucks fully caged with V8 motors (Chev 305, Ford 302, Dodge 318)."

Ernie L. stated some time ago as long as he was race director “No Trucks”, now that Ernie’s gone :D

Yeah, it'll be neat to see the quarter tons out there - but I think the division will really take shape as a replacement for the hobby stocks once the fullsize trucks make their debut in a year or two. Time will tell - ;). The hobby stock division was on the verge for a few years now - you just can't find the big ole' 8 cylinders anymore.

The Nascar Canadian Tire Series race at Riverside has a title sponsor....

Riverside Speedway is pleased to announce that Komatsu/Wilson Equipment with become the new title sponsor for the Sept 19th NASCAR Weekend Show. The event will now be known as the Komatsu 300. More details in the coming weeks about this great event.

I'm also hearing that the hold up concerning Regan Smith returning to defend his win at the July IWK 250, is that he's trying to put together a Nationwide Series ride for the rest of the year, which means he'll be racing that weekend.

We were up for the 100 lap event at Riverside yesterday. They announced that Regan Smith will be returning to defend his win along with "The Franchise".

FundyTrail - we drove through the camping lot around noontime - I didn't see you flag? Did you make it to Riverside?

We heard the news as well David Reutimann & Regan Smith in equally prepared cars might be interesting :-)

Mike, we left for the track around noon and I packed up the RV prior leaving for the track. Sorry we missed you.
Thought you were their as it looked like you had posted your sons picture standing next to one of the show cars for the IWK 250 on facebook.
Have a safe trip to NHMS!

FundyTrail...

Yep, that was him and Reutimann's car. Those two in good cars will be a whole lotta fun! The 250 should be a great weekend of racing - AND camping. I figured you may have packed up before heading over to the track. I had my brother in law and his daughter with me for thier first trip to Riverside - he's already planning to switch some vacation around to try to make the 250 and camp with us - He was pretty amazed at the site of all the campers.

We're counting down to NH in a few weeks. Tickets in hand - lol!
