Did anyone hear that Unity Raceway in Maine had announced it was suspending the 2008 season, and that the track is now available for lease or purchase?:(

Unfortunately you have got it right! Ralph Nason decided to suspend operations at Unity about a month ago. Many of the teams competing there are headed to Wiscaset and Speedway 95. Truly a sad day in auto racing for the state of Maine, becuase usually when a place like that closes it's doors it's never temporary! If you go to www.bangordailynews.com (http://www.bangordailynews.com) and search for Unity speedway you'll find many of the articles refering to the whole deal. Many a great NorthEast driver had some great runs there, and the community alone will be at a loss, let alone the race community.

Let's hope someone steps in and takes the track over. I belive the owner of Unity was Ralph Nason, I also believe he owned Spud Speedway in Caribou a few years ago and did the same thing with that track and I believe someone stepped in last year and took over Spud's.

We had the same thing happen here in Nova Scotia with Riverside Speedway and the new owner now has the primer track in Eastern Canada. Lets hope the same thing happens at Unity.:)

Yeah Spud is under new management and had a pretty good year last year from what I understand. I raced up there quite a few years ago in a 4 cyl. class, we had a ball. Was back when Racin Ralph Nason was still large and incharge. Ralph is quite a guy if you ever get the chance to meet him. I really want to get up there this summer and check it out. One of the biggest supporters and racers from Caribou that raced and helped out at the track all the time was killed in a snowmobile accident this winter, and I think they will do something special for him one weekend up there, and I would like to be there if they do.
