Now that we've got a flagpole, my son tells me we must put one of those flashing lights on the top of it. What does everyone else use for a light, and how would you attach it to a 1.5 in. pvc tube?

Thx

You'd better check with the track that your going to first. Some have it in their camping rules, no flashing lights on flag poles. Las Vegas Motor Speedway is one. That probably means that all of Bruton Smiths tracks are that way, since he owns LVMS.

We go to NHIS, a Smith track, and I just double checked the rules, just to be sure, and there's nothing there about flag poles and lights (so far). Its always been allowed at NHIS by the previous owners, hope it continues.

LED lights, could plug into you trailer lights OEM plug and use a a "flash selenoid "(sp) to control the flashing timming.

3M makes stick on clip on flashing light (about Bicycle reflector size) for night walkers. I know they are available @ Home Depot and Menards in our area. By the flashlight and battery sections. They come in a multitude of colors and last for a real long time. You can set them for flashing or steady on. They are like $5. Hey it works for us !!!!!!!!

I hope that it stays the same for you.

I don't know about other Smith Tracks, just this one. It's rule number 12, in their rule book for camping on the grounds of LVMS.

the "j.c. Whitney" Catalogs Have Strobes And The Ones That Spin In All Different Colors, (white, Yellow, Blue, Red), And I Paid Like 13 Bucks For A Strobe One, But That Was 10 Years Ago.

I bought one of these on EBay last year, but only blue in color. I extended the wiring using the Malibu lighting cable. I had to fabricate a mount. The brass top on the flag pole secured the mount to the top of the pole. Worked great.

This particular one is for sale on EBay now, here is the link if interested.

Its is a true aid in finding your way back to camp when you have indulged a bit too much.

Best of luck.

Did you say you had one? How much power does something like that draw? Still have no generator. Running off of truck batteries.

I plugged it into a 12 volt lighter socket in one of those jump start packs. I ran it for three nights with no problem.

I didn't think about that...I just kept running my truck dead. DOH!

At $54.95 this light looks good as it was made to fit a flag pole;
· Battery powered bright LED rotating beacon
· (4) AA batteries last for 144 hours
· Adjustable rotating speeds
· Push button on/off switch
· Self contained (no wires)
· Can be seen for miles

Fundy, I like that light, and since you have the pole from the vendor, and that light is supposed to fit on that pole, what does the top of the pole look like? I've got a 1.5 inch pvc tube as the top of my flag pole, and before I spend $50+, I want to be sure that I can attach the light to the pvc tube.

Thx.

Fundy, I just ordered the one you suggested, so come next Sept, you'll be able to see it flashing on your way down from the great white north!

I got the multi-color rotating beacon. The strobes looked good too, but it appeared that you had to hook them up to an external power supply, and the beacon, the one you suggested, is powered by the onboard batteries, which will make it much easier.

I wrote to the company, and they said the lights shaft will fit inside the 1.5 inch pvc pipe I'm using, and that I can drill a hole in the light shaft and the pvc pipe, and put a bolt thru them to secure the light to the pvc.
