What is recomended, should the fridge be left on with propane on while traveling at highway speed or are we just wasting propane as the wind blows the flame out?

We leave ours on propane the whole time we are on the road. Never had an issue with it blowing out. It has an electric ignition so maybe it relights itself? Never gave it any thought until we bought the pop-up and the fridge on it won't stay lit while traveling. We just run it on 12v, but that is not an option on the fiver.

We ride with ours on also. Just be sure to shut it off when you stop to get gas or diesal. We have not had any problems with the flame going out.

ive done that before by accident...but ive been too scared to do it intentionally...but i rekon if theres no harm...then yeah that would make life easier...wont have to worry about lighting the damn thing and getting it cold once your there....that is the sucky part.

It Actually Gets Colder From The Bouncing Around. It's Something Like The Bubbles Don't Get Trapped At The Ends Of The Coil, Like If Your Not Level Front To Back.

Being new to motor home traveling, how would we run with the propane on so we can keep food cold while traveling?
Safe? Unsafe? and how difficult to turn it off and on with each fuel stop?

I am thinking we will have only 1-2 fuel stops.

We always have ours on.

BUT, if you travel with your generator on to power the airs, etc... you can default the fridge to run off the genny instead, which is safer.

If you do this, go the extra mile and turn the gas off at the source also outside.

One of the things you need to be careful of is when you fuel up, all the gas fumes can I have heard get sucked into the area where the flame is and you know the rest.

For us in a diesel this is usually not a concern as we are usually in the back 40 or at a truck stop and the fridge is not in the area near gas pumps.

BUT, I always got the wife to turn the fridge off as we pulled in:idea:

driving with the fridge on propane is not an issue all newer fridges have auto ignition so blow out of the burner won`t happen it just relites
the rolling motion of the rv when on the road does not affect the operation of the cooling unit just remember that the fridge does not like being unlevel for to long as the cooling unit depends on gravity for it to work well and the fridge will work better when travelling because when your moving it gets rid of the heat faster therefore the fridge doesn`t have to work as hard
one other issue when you refuel turn the fridge off as there is an open flame there
the fridge will hold its temp for about 4 hours as long as the door stays shut

Well i had a little incident going down to the Atlanta race a few weeks ago that could of been a disaster. After we cleared the boarder i turned the propane on to keep the fridge cold. I have a Fuzion 373 Triple slide 5ver. When we got down to Atlanta we stopped at a Kroger on US41 just outside the track and i turned on the genny to take over the fridge. So we went in did the groceries and came back out the slides had been put out in the parking lot. Coming back we noticed a rubber line hanging down on the tire, so i went under the trailer and to my amazement the ruber line was the gas line hanging down the plastic zip ties that were holding the line up were broken guess i didnt pay enough for steel straps.Anyways the rubber line had been rubbing on the tire and it wore through the rubber line in two spots the propane tank was bone dry it blew out a 30 pound tank lucky we were dring all night at 70 miles an hour to dissapate the propaneor KABOOM i would of been pulling a frame. So i would have to say NEVER EVER drive with th propane on no matter what these RV,S are All build out of cheap parts and its not worth risking your life or someone elses to keep the frige runing it will stay cold for a day without it running somthing to think about i will take pics of the hose and post them next week when i got some time.
