I have a somewhat antique 78 Jayco popup. it has the standard lights, outlets, refrigerator that runs on gas, electric, or battery, etc. My question is this. When i put the voltage to the original built in converter when switched to battery power, it will run only the lights. In fact, the lights will run off the batteries only no matter if the switch is on battery or generator power. Also when the switch is on electric power, the outlets and the refrigerator work fine but not the lights. For obvious reasons i would like to have the lights operate on generator power so i can save batteries for when the generator is off. When switch is on battery, the outlets and the refrigerator don't work either.
What could be causing the lights to operate on battery power only regardless of what position the switch is in? Perhaps the inverter is dead?

so if i understand correctly your converter has a 3 way switch left right and center sounds like its working fine except for the lights there should be a relay that clicks on to let the 12 volt thru find that relay inside the converter and replace it or bypass it so the lights stay on which they should in any of the 3 switch positions
