We may be going to Daytona for first time, (if I can get a premium infield camping spot at this late date) and was wondering.... The Daytona website says no pets, yet I have seen pictures (some on this site) with racefans with their dogs. We have 2 dogs that go with us to Watkins Glen amongst many other local races, and would hate to leave them home. Just wondering if Daytona really enforces this rule or not?

Go to Nascar Tracks section in forum (page 3), see post "Daytona west and pets", see post by by Ckerr on 6/22, says pets are allowed in west lot and infield

Trust me the infield at Daytona is nothing like Watkins Glen or likely any of your "local tracks". Spaces are very close together, not much room and it is party central for the most part. Personally I would not, and have never brought any my Pets to even the West Lot of Daytona, and certainly wouldn't do the infield with them. Just my opinion, just because a pet is allowed someplace doesn't always mean its the best place for them. Perhaps if you could get a spot in the Lake Lloyd section, since it is controlled access and spots are a bit bigger. Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the info guys. We are currently weighing our options (Lake Lloyd; or camprground, or Volusia Speedway, or Boarding of pets). I'm looking forward to February however things turn out!

Keep in touch, I will be there as always. I camp out in the West Lot (outside turns 1 and 2) and have seats in the Nextel Tower, will be there from the Bud Shootout Sat ( or whatever the heck they call it now, was the Busch Clash far back as I go) till Monday after the 500.

We have a spot in Lake Lloyde for July races. Even with the smaller summer crowd I'm not sure we will take Sage. Not much room to walk a pooch on something other than pavement. Maybe a VERY SMALL dog with some hearing loss...

I may be able to help... but wont be cheap... I MAY, and I say again MAY be able to get my hands on a driver overflow Motor Home Pass. Call me to discuss price.... But please be sitting down when you call. Of course this would come with 2 pitt passes and Garage passes for the Nationwide Series...

Just my thought, but wouldn't the sound of the cars freak the dogs out? Or give them some sort of hearing loss? I would never think to take my dogs because if they do get freaked out about it would take all the fun out of it.

Yeah, they reversed the "no pets deal" they were going to impliment for 09. Due to heavy response from fans. Many folks that camp in the West Lot are "snowbirds" that actually stay there for the entire time (close to a month) many of them travel with pets. There was a big petition drive last year 08 against the no pets policy. I personallly would not bring a pet to daytona. However many folks travel with little dogs that are never outside anyway.

There has been "pets" dogs in Daytona for al long as I can remember, even though it was not allowed. "Camping" would not be as much fun without my dog. When I pull into the infield I'm usually greated by "hellos" then "wheres Zoie" My dog is somewhat a celebrity at Daytona...

Zoie is a great dog for sure, Joe looking forward to seeing you and yours again this year. Hopefully the wife won't have to be on her computer working quite as much as she was last year.

Just to update this thread. YES pets are allowed at Daytona in all camping areas. Normal rules apply as in anywhere. Keep them on leash, pick up after them always, keep them a bit quiet and above all keep them away from people that don't like animals. There have been instances where a neighbor has reported that someone dog was "dangerious" to the Speedway and they sent out security and police to investigate. Speedway does reserve right to have you either remove animal from the property or throw all of you out with no refund. So be safe and smart with your 4 legged friends at the track and you'll have no problems :)
