I was going to put up a post about this...and you beat me to it. Ditching the race for America's Funniest Videos...SERIOUSLY!! Don't get me wrong, watching people get whacked in the ding dings by various items, and kids saying silly stuff is fun to watch...But ditching a LIVE event for a pre-recorded fluff show...IDIOTS...IDIOTS...IDIOTS.
How wrong was that, knowing that everyone does not have ESPN.
Just a dumb a$$ move. Maybe that is part of the CHANGE coming.

if it's the change that is coming....then we are in trouble for sure!!
i had to give my brother a play by play of the rest of the race...if this keeps up i'm going to apply for an announcer's job!!!
you know if it had been a football, basketball game they would have just kept right on going! because everyone wants to watch a bunch of drugged headed thugs out there!!!
stay safe and send out those emails to ABC complaining about their stupid decision!

We were on the road today, and were lucky enough to be able to find a series of MRN stations to listen to the race. Got home, ran in the house to get the TV on .. JUST in time to hear that they were cutting over at 7:30. We do have ESPN2 .. but still I was NOT amused in the least.

Bad deal, these networks aren't worth it

SPEED should cover all the races, they are the ones who really cares about Nascar...ESPN and ABC just have too much money to give nascar for them to actually say no to them and yes to Speed, plus not everyone gets Speed

I agree - horrible call by ABC execs :-x We get ESPN, but seriously, for America's Funniest Home Videos??? Wow!! I guess that tells us how important Nascar fans are to the big networks.

Just one more way NASCAR sticks it to the east coast fan. West coast race so lets start it at 3 then cut the end off but because the west coast has different schedule I don't believe they were effected. Just glad ESPN2 was available and that I wasn't DVRing it. If they had put it on ESPN Classic I would have been upset since I don't get that or SPEED

My wife and I couldn't believe it...I can't think of any other sport out there where a major network would pull such a stunt, especially with such little notice.
Does AFHV get better ratings than Nascar?

Was not just East Coast...it hit the Central time zone as well. When I heard what they were saying, I figured it was not going to be an issue...then AFV was on...and I was scrambling to find the right channel. :(
Go here and tell them about it.

Thank you TSN!Take it easy thier with TSN. They have blown it like ten times this year they r not worthey of carring NASCAR either. Nascar better wake up with this tv coverage, they wonder why ratings are dropping and empty seats at every race track hhmmmmmm.

According to John Darby on an interview on Sirrius yesterday, the contract that Nascar signed with ABC/ESPN specifically states that at 7:59 EST ABC will switch the broadcast to an ESPN station, and that the switch was conducted exactly per the contract.
So, I guess it's a Nascar contract issue, not an ABC issue.

Hmmm, but didn't they switch over to ESPN2 somewhere around 7:30pm EST? The race was over by 7:59.

I may have got the time wrong...I was going by memory and was confused when I heard it yesterday because we are on a different time zone.

What torqued me off is they said "East Coast" viewers would see AFV...and we are Central time zone and it dumped us as well...right at the stroke of 6:30pm.
Lord help us all if they broadcast the Daytona 500...
