Just wanted to fill you all in with my NC trip, I had the chance to drive around Lowe's motor speedway today in my dads Volvo haha (my dad is MadFinn on this site). There was some event where you buy some the old stuff from the souviners trailers that travel from race to race you get some card that lets you drive around the track. I didn't buy anything but some nice lady gave me her card, and instead of riding shotgun with my friend. I took dads car out there and (dont tell dad) went 90mph in turns 1 and 2 lol. Just touched 100 on the back stretch before I slowed down with others infront.
THere was some kind of pacecar that no one could pass, and maybe 15 of us at a time, to be honest it got alittle racey, and I thought maybe a few people were nuts. Though I had a better time looking in my rearview mirrow to some dad in a old soccer van all excited, and the mom shotgun biting the heck out of her nails.
I guess they do this every year on black friday so if anyone is around next year you should check it out
Pit Crew School Week 4 Post COMING SOON!!!:)

Hey Knute,
This was our 4th trip to LMS for the blow out sale. We spent our $50 and a friend gave me his card, so in theory we could both drive the track .... I did both trips around !!!! I was having too much fun and Mark was happy that I was happy.
There are rules .. like max speed is 70 .. min speed is 50 .. no PASSING .. no agressive driving ... OH ..and IF you have an accident .. you are to report it to your own insurance co and the Concord Police .. lol
and as it got later and the crowds picked up they probably had 25 to 30 (or more) cars on the track at a time.
The first time around I was right behind the pace car so until we caught the back of the pack we were moving at about 70 to 75. The corvette behind me got antsy on the last lap and had to pass me then it was a free for all .. I was doing 70 and they were passing me ....
The second time through I was toward the back of the pack and figured it was not going to be a fun time .. but I still managed to keep it at 70 to 75. Not bad for a Sierra z-71 extended cab long bed ..
If there aren't idiots out there poking along .. you can keep it at 70 to 75 and not even have to turn the wheel in the corners.
I'm getting ready to upload my pictures from today, so check out the my webshots later, they should be there!
My big buy for the day was a red and black leather Winston Cup jacket for $125. Unfortunately, I got it from one of the vendors set up on the other side of the road, so they were not passing out the stickers for every $10 spent, or we would have had another 2 trips around the track.
Glad you had a good time. We drive about 400 miles (from Maryland) to do this and it's the best way I know of to spend Black Friday.

MO
cool pictures man, funny thing is when I was siting on pit road, they never told us any rules, just said wait here, then go. the lined up up double file and we went off. The got passed right away on the back stretch then after 1 lap some people got very racey.
70ish mph tho was what i was going in the turns, and the coolest part is the banking in the turns there. Tho on one lap i was in 1 and 2 and had a lane up high and I just went for it. Very fun! got to about 90 in turn 2, 95 on the backstretch then had to slow down as I caught up to the others. I was with 2 other people and one guy (who i thought was nuts when he passed me) said he hit 110mph.
So someone wasnt clocking us out there lol. Still lots of fun

Hey Knute,
From your original description, it sounds like you got out there in the early group. As I said, we have done this before so we knew the 'rules' anyway, but when we got there was someone standing out on the perimeter road before you went through the tunnel passing out instructions/rules on 1/2 sheet of white paper. Then when we got to the guy who was taking the yellow cards, he mentioned the 50 mph minimum the first time, the 2nd time through he said speeds would be between 55 and 70 on the track.
I've never noticed them enforce the rules, I guess from pit road they can't see what is going on .. lol .. and as long as no one wrecks or kills someone, they feel like they have done their part to make it safe. I would just hate for some idjit to ruin it for the rest of us!
BTW, I've been reading your pit crew school updates, sounds great! Almost makes me wish I was ummmmmmmmmmm... MUCH younger . and maybe not such a wuss that I would try it.

Hey thanks MO, I appericate that, I really enjoy writing these, for you guys but for meself too so I can look back sometime and remember everything and how it was. Who knows maybe someone will read these one day and make it into a book or a movie lol.
BTW you could still be on a pit crew, I tell my dad Im sure he would be a great catch can man, or a pit sign holder, Maybe I can get him a job if I ever make it to the show. (my friends who play hockey in the minors call the NHL the "Show" so I think thats what Im going to start calling the cup series if i make it to the "show"

Not "if you make it to the show", but "when you make it to the show"!!!
