After using scanners for the past 15 years I finally bought a Fan View. I got it off e-bay, so I was a little concerned about it. It works great and I love all the functions. It's $10 a week-end once you have the unit. Picture is great, Sound is great. Menu's are easy. This will be my 2nd season with it and I love it.......pittsborogil

i have one as well they really are fun, the best thing is that if there is a problem with it you take it to the fanview trailer and if they can't fix it they give you another.

I'm kicking myself, I had a Sprint VIP card to use one for free all last season and never tried it and now I want to try one but I just don't want to spend forty something dollars to do so when the money could just go towards buying a scanner.
Now that I have heard from someone on here that says it is good...I might just consider purchasing one without trying it as I really need to invest in a scanner very soon!
There any other good scanners any one suggests?

Do they work during the Nationwide races as well? I was also wondering about jumping from driver channel to driver audio channel? I saw that you can scan through all the drivers (and stop the scan on any of them), but can you jump directly to a driver? (I flip around the scanner as much as I do with the remote at home :) )
I was kind of curious about them last year. But then I realized that I would spend more time playing with and watching the fanview than watching the race. :) At Bristol and Richmond we have big screens in front of us for replays and such.
Mina - It depends on what you are looking for (# of channels, computer programmable, etc) and how much you want to spend. We have 3 radio shack scanners that have all worked well. (A 200 channel radio shack model that was the first thing I bought when going to my first race 10+ years ago for $100-$150, Wendy's that is probably almost as old, and a newer 1000 channel model)

The fan views are the best investment ever ... especially if you go to several races a year. They cover all activities for the week or weekend. Once you purchase them ... you just pay $10.00 + tax to activate for the track you are at. I would recommend purchasing the fan views to everyone. :-D One small item though ... my daughter and her boyfriend were watching the fan views and saw a wreck that happened right in front of them. We had to tell them to only watch the fan view when they lose the cars on the track. Once you can see them again or hear them ... LOOK UP TO THE TRACK! They got it after that.

I guess it would boil down to personal preference. Rented one once, spent more time playing with the Fan View than I did watching the race. I said hell, why am I paying $100+ for a race ticket to watch race on this thing?
Just use the trusty scanner, gives me all the info I need.
BTW- Got new Uniden 95XLT, 2 headsets and splitter and all the other goodies for $130 on Ebay. Some decent deals there.

Thanks for the link Tim, though the darn thing is up to 260 now so I don't think I better bid now especially since I really don't know what I want.
I honestly really don't know anything about scanners only that I must have my trackpass scanner on when I am watching the race at home or I get annoyed by the lack of information they give you on tv lol! The only thing I've used at the track is a team's scanner and I loved it mainly because I didn't have to work the thing. Someone else turned it on and it was set for their team and I didn't need to do anything to it but put it on...well I don't think I was allowed to touch any buttons even if I had wanted to do anything to it! Pretty sure the driver wouldn't have appreciated some random girls voice over his scanner!
So I have no idea what I want, don't know anything about the channels, the programming, anything! But I am very good with electronics so it isn't like I would have difficulty figuring one out once I figure out which I want.
I did see someone with a fanview at Bristol watching the fanview almost the entire race...it was a bit funny, the thing must be good lol!

That is the one down side to the fan view, you drive all the way to the race to watch it on tv.

Actually when you are in the infield and you lose sight of the cars ... it's nice to have. You just have to dicipline yourself not to watch it the whole way around the track. It's not that hard and when a wreck or caution comes out ... and you can't see that part of the track ... it makes it nice to be able to look down and see everything in instant replay. As somebody stated earlier ... everyone has their own preference.
