Is anyone planning on going to the ARCA race at the rock this coming weekend? I can't decide if I am going. Thunder Alley camping is only $100 and $20 a person for all weekend. Can anyone sway my decision to go?????? Free camping anywhere outside the track. Free infield camping with a $50 wristband per person. You can't beat the prices or the racing you will see.

We'd love to go, but we just can't squeeze it in the schedule or budget this time. :(
I vote for you going, though. ;)

If I lived that close - I'd be there!

I am going with 4 others, it will be a tune-up for Talladega. We went last Spring also and camped on property... we were one of about 20 total "groups" on the non-paved speedway property.
Thinking about going across the street from the front stretch this year, but I think it is a "pop odom" situation? Gonna have to see how much it costs first... because it is hard to pass up free.
For those who haven't been to the Rock in a while, it is so awesome to see cars back on that track. If attendance can hold up it would be a shining star for the Nationwide or Truck series to do a weekend there again

I would have to do the Thunder Alley if I went. I went to the Polar Bear 150 on New Years. We did the infield and garages and actually ended up in the winners circle at the end of the race. There were a ton of Nascar people there hanging out. We party right next to Clint Bowyer's nationwide crew chief and some of the #29 team. They were some really nice guys. We had a blast.
How many people were there last spring for the race? I am thinking about bring the girlfriend. But I need it to be more of a party atmosphere to keep her entertained.

I just check the weather and it will be a high of 75 both days with lows in the mid 50's. Little chance of rain.

Sounds like it would be a blast! You should definitely go but leave it up to your girlfriend if she wants to go or not. If she doesn't really want to be there and you have to talk her into it then it could end up being not much fun for either of you. I go alone a lot (I am a girl who loves racing but all my other girl friends would hate it)simply because I don't want to drag along a a friend who isn't going to enjoy it because then I have to worry about entertaining them instead of just enjoying myself.
You definitely shouldn't miss it though! I'd go if I wasn't stuck in Indiana! But next year I'll be living in NC and then maybe I can make it...yeah!

Across the road from the front stretch is the closest thing I would call a party scene, nowhere on the actual speedway property (maybe infield? can't say anything about that) will be populated much at all based on last year.

JcFull,
I am 90% going to the race now with a buddy. We are going to make the call tonight. Will you be across the street partying or camped on Rock property behind the lil rock? We will be coming in Sat morning and camping on Thunder Alley.

Haven't decided yet... would like to check it out across the street but depends on how much it costs and how much we all have (most of the group is going to 'Dega in a few days and money is tight). Lookout for the confederate flag, I am sure we will be the only people at the track flying one! :)
I wish I had known the prices for TA and Infield, probably would have done that and not bought tickets. I think they were charging a ridiculous amount for TA last year, likes $700 or upwards of $1000
One good thing about Andy H. and crew they will listen to fans and make changes to accomodate us

I do remember the prices last year being more expensive then a Charlotte Cup race now that you mention it. I doubt you will be the only ones with a Rebel Flag at the Rock. We will go walking Sat after the latemodel race and before the Cup race and see if we can find you. We will be the shortest RV on TA flying the Miller High Life flag. I am going to call here in a few and reserve the spot for the weekend.

Ended up across the road from the frontstretch. Campgrounds were sparsely populated outside the track both on and off property. Looked like Thunder Alley was about 2/3-3/4 full? Couldn't tell a lot about the infield but it look kind of empty too.
Awesome late model race on Saturday afternoon, the last few laps were incredible.
ARCA race was short, which I think is good for that series. Would have killed for a caution in the last 50 laps... lots of racing on restarts and fresh tires but a long run at the end of the race put fuel into the picture (at rockingham!?!?!?) and my man Schrader ran out of gas.
All in all good weekend and a good tuneup for 'Dega!

JC,
Did you have the Rebel flag flying over a popup? We took a walk around the track after the LateModel race. We went and checked out all the names on the "ROCK". I saw 4 different Rebel flags but wasn't sure which one you were. That was some great racing at the end of the LateModel race. Too bad for those last 2 cautions.
I was the camper flying 2 flags on Sat. and 3 on Sunday. We had most of the wrecks right in front of us. Even watched one car catch on fire for awhile till they could get the fire crew over there. I will be going back for some more racing at The Rock. I hope they can pull off a Truck race and tag it along with a ARCA race. That would be a nice full weekend. Also it was nice to watch the Cup race Sat. night. I didn't feel like I was missing anything. I think it was some good planning on that scheduling.

We ended up not putting the rebel flag up, we had Tony Stewart and a State of North Carolina flag (flying at about 60 degrees rather than 90 due to poor pole construction).
I think I saw your moho across the track. Thunder Alley definitely seems to be a great spot. My favorite spot to sit at the Rock is in between Turns 1 and 2, but they wouldnt sell them this year. We were about 2/3 the way down the front stretch, and I will probably not sit there again. I like being in a turn as long as I can see the whole track.
Maybe I'll try the Schrader stands next year. Either way I'll be back as much as possible, I love that place!

You should think about Thunder Alley. They had the gate open at Turn 2 and you could walk up to those stands and sit. Our neighbors sat up there for some of the ARCA race and had a whole section to themselves. I hope the price doesn't go up too much for next year's race. I think everyone over there will be telling all of their friends to be there. They were even smart enough to space out the campers so we had a spot or two in between all of us.
