This past saturday our home caught fire and burned.
It was a total loss.
We were camping for Spring Break on West Point Lake in Ga for the week.

Our son Scott jr came home late from a concert put some oil on the stove and stepped outside to smoke and when he came back inside the stove was on fire.He was able to get the fire out but the flames went up thru the vent to the attic. He called 911 and we live on the GA/Al line so the call went to the Al offcie. He did this 3 times.
Our volunteer fire did a great job. They asked our son where the pictures were and they saved most of them.
Our son was not harmed that is the most important thing.

The Redcross put us up for 4 night at Staybridge Suites in columbus. We will stay here untill we can get in a apartment.
440$ to Kmart
115$ Publix.

We are now looking at fully furnished apartments.

I will keep you all posted.

I have pics below on webshots.

If you have a facebook account you can keep up with our progress also.

I'm so sorry to hear about this! Thank goodness no one was injured and it is nice to hear they were able to save most of your pictures...I really can't even believe they thought to get those out but they are definitely something that can't be replaced so it is wonderful you still have those.
I'm also glad to hear that the American Red Cross stepped in to help. I wish there was something that I could do for you. What I can do is promise you that I will always support charity's such as the Redcross. The red cross is absolutely amazing, I'm so grateful that such an organization exists.
These sorts of things are very difficult but they remind us all of what is really important in life; our families! Your family is safe and that is the most important thing.
I hope you are able to find an apartment soon. Your family will be in my prayers!

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, we lost our home to fire in Nov. of 94. It was a total loss. I'm glad that they saved your pictures, I think that was the worst thing to lose for us. We were blessed that no one was home. Please know that things will get better, we now have a bigger home and more junk then before, but really you will make it. If you ever need to talk please feel free to let me know. I hope you will be as blessed as we have been.

So very sorry to hear that..But very glad that everyone is OK. Thats the most important, that no lives were lost.

My Sister-in-law and Bro-in-law's house burned year and a half ago, They all escaped safely, and it was a total loss also, but the worst part about it, 2 volunteer firemen lost their lives in it..One of the firemen that died was a classmate of my son when they were in school, and they were also in boy scouts together too for many years..They knew each other since
1st grade, and I went to school with his mother..It was a horrble nightmare that day. Very hard to take, losing those firemen, especially losing one that was one of "my boys", he was barely 20 years old ...

I hope that all goes well for you, my inlaws have a new home too, now, and all is well for them, everything was replaced, ~ it still stings to think about that day though..I dont know how they thought of everything they had in the house they lost, But I Guess it was more like starting over..they just took things day by day, thats about all you can do..They would constantly say things like "Oh I have a pair of boots like those"..and then stop and say, Oh, No I dont, I lost those in the fire..I dont think they do that anymore--not very much anyways, and Its Been alittle more than a year and a half now..

Again, I am sorry for your loss...and if there is anything I or we can do, please let us know. We are your family...and will come running if needed.

I think this is a great time to remind everyone HOW important it is to video document your household goods, serial numbers, and such and keep in a safe place. Put it into a word file and send to a web based email such as gmail or yahoo account, and it will be safe.

I am going to take the time to update mine this weekend. And I know my smoke detectors need new batteries as well...
