View Full Version : Fresh water "backflow"? valve

We filled our freshwater b4 we left. When we parked, we turned on the pump and water came out of the "fill" opening. (No hookups at the site). Seems a check valve that "switches" from water usage from the tank and water from a direct source has gotten stuck. When you turn on the pump, the water comes out of the water connection.
Is there a simple solution to replacing the valve???

Strange that.......are you sure the tank is just not so full the flow is pushing it out??????

We originally thought that, but the water comes out the "direct source water in" area as soon as you turn the pump on. Ended up, we lost all of our water supply that weekend :(
A friend of ours seems to think it's a back flow valve that is on the water intake opening for "direct" water demand (where you hook up to a water source at a site.) Seems to think the valve got stuck open, so when the pump is operating and getting water from the water tank, the pressure pushes out the water on the "direct source" filler hole.
I'm gonna fill the tank again and turn on the pump here in the driveway. If it still does it, I guess I'll take it to an RV maintenance shop in Opelika.

Kimmer I suspect you are talking about your "city water inlet" and yes it has a one way check valve it it, if your are using your 12 volt pump and it is bad it will leak water out where your connect the hose to your RV.
See the link below as a replacement is $9.99 but depending on the location they can take a fair bit of work to replace.

quick fix could be, take an old hose crimp it over with a clamp and put it on the inlet. that is if it is too difficult to get to.
Micky Mouse school of engineering......

We actually had a hose, connected it to the "city water" connection and put the cut off end into the regular water imput. Since the water was being pushed out of the city water connection, it went back into the tank. :)

Another quick fix in a pinch is to pick up a water inlet plug and screw it into the city water inlet. You will have to tighten more than normal.
The link below shops the plug I'm talking about but you can pick one up at most department stores;

I finally opened up my camper and de-winterized it yesterday and I have the exact same problem. At first when I attached my city water I had no water in the camper, so I assumed that valve was stuck, so I filled my water tank andwhen it was full I turned on the pump and water came splashing out my city water connection.
I shut the pump off, went outside and stuck a screwdriver in the city water inlet and pushed on the white plastic stub that sticks out and is part of the valve. I turned on the pump again, and no more water was squirting out, so it was fixed (but who knows for how long).
