We will be camping at Texas for the first time this April. Any advice or recommendations on how to make it a great time?

Do you have on site camping spot yet. That will be your first thing to do.

Yes, we do. I think it's the Victory Circle campground. We also have our race tickets.

Good, You should be ready for dry camping, fill your water tank and dump your black and gray tanks before you get to the track. They have water wagons and Honey wagons that charge about $25 to fill you up and $25 to dump. They have a small on site grocery store set up for some of thing you forgot. dont count on more that milk, bread and stuff like that. Showers are nice and new, get there early or late at night.
we will be in site SS-22 which is next to the heliport by turn 3.

We will be there this spring. I have camped there many times before in tents but this will be our first year in the camper. Called today on the sites and should reserve our later this week.
Still working on some PSL seats. I guess if they fall thru it's back to the aluminum bench!
We should exchange site numbers and try to hook up while we're down there. I know I'll have some cold ones that I would be willing to share with some fellow NASCARCAMPERS!!!!

Let me know if you don't have any luck with tickets. We usually have several extra, we are in 408 psl seats. If you want a camping spot for all three race weekends, my friends may not renew one of there two spots. We are next to the heliport fence. Great location(we think).
Keep in touch and we can get together for some "16oz curls"

Hey that sounds great! Got two more options on tickets then I'll holler back at cha.
Soon as I get tickets I will reserve my camping spot. Really not much sense having a spot with no tickets!!!

I will be calling TMS today to reserve my campspot. Can one request a certain area or is it just luck of the draw. If you can request where would be a decent spot.
We have never camped in a camper at the track before although tent camped many many times there.
Any suggestions of a nice spot would be appreciated.
Should I take the word of the representative when he says 'Hey this is a good spot ...would you like it?'

See, this is exactly whay I started this whole site, with the end goal being to find people and or take pictures of all the campgrounds, etc...
I personally cant help you here, and the track people, well that is a hit and miss also.
If no-one can help you here or there, it would be a learning experience, and then you can share with us later!

02-14-2007, 04:33 PM
Will do on the picture taking! And, I'm sure we will all have stories and info on our experiences when we return. I'll have to get my ticket info when I get home to see if we are near any other campers.

I tried to email a bunch of our photos last week, maybe they can post them.
In sec 117 you should be close to "pit out" toward turn one. It will be a good spot.
If you know where you want to camp you may be able to request a certain area if available. Tell them you want to be close to the heliport. We love it there. Good luck.

Got our spot reserved. I'm hoping I picked a good one. I'm one for the fast getaway!! We're at Row 36 Spot 2, Victory Circle.
I will definetly be scoping it out this year looking for where we want to be next year.
We should arrive there wednesday late morning and be leaving monday morning. We hope to hook up with some of you guys. When will you all be arriving?

I just called Texas, nice new website :D
I am in The Lone Star Campground this I now know
Beerlifter
02-16-2007, 11:06 PM
The new website is nice but man they still need to do some tweaking on it.
When I called to reserve my spot I was looking at the attached picture of the campgrounds at Victory Cirlce. Of course AFTER I purchased my spot I looked down in the corner of the picture and it said Victory Circle Tent City!!! 10 X 12 spots!! NO REFUNDS!!!!
Back on the phone I was! They confirmed that there was also tent sites available there but that I had purchased a spot for a camper (20X40?). I was worried for nothing.
Probably not that big of a thing but little things like that can make a guy start double guessing himself especially when it comes to that kinda of money for that size of campspot.
All in all everything is in place. Just wish the race was here already....spending too much money waiting on it!!! Bought a new leveler,Junebug campchair, awning mat (checkered flag pattern!!),racing tacky lights, and I'm sure I'll find lots more by April 15th...lol
Now for a question, while looking at Google earth I noticed a service station across from the track does anyone know if they have a water spigot to fill my water tank before I set up camp. I don't want to have to travel from Norman, Okla. with my tank full of water.
Thanks guys and we'll see you at the race!!

Beerlifter, we plan on being there on Thursday, depending on how impatient my husband is. We'll leave Colorado on Tuesday evening, probably spending the night on Raton Pass as we really like that campground off of I-25. We're allowing 2 days travel time, depending on how windy it might be coming across the Texas Panhandle and if we hit any nasty weather. It'll be fun to meet another PUX'er.
Good question about the water, as we won't be bringing water from Colorado, either. I still have family living in the area, I'll see what I can find out. There are truck stops up and down that area - hopefully, we can find someplace to fill up.

Hi folks! New to the site but this will be our 3rd year camping at TMS. We are in Victory Circle - I don't remember the row number but we are at the back on the end of the row and I'll post the row number when I can find it :D They don't let you renew your campsite with your season ticket in Victory Circle so I can never remember what site we are in.
I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents on the question about water availability at the local gas stations. Those closest gas stations are a zoo around race time - they set up a small tent city of merchandise in the parking lot and maneuvering a rig around is really tight. I'd suggest stopping at a truck stop rather than fighting the crowds there.
Rick - you and I have "met" on a different board. Maybe we'll find you this time around - I did look for you one race weekend before but I couldn't see your Bounder from the walkway and I was too lazy to try and walk to find it :D

I've only missed 3 races since the track opened and don't I know what you mean when you say a circus!!!
Like I mentioned before we will be arriving wednesday morning so hopefully it won't be as bad so we can get in and out for water. I want to haul water as short a distance as I can!
Hope to see and met some of you there.

Rick - I'll have to try and swing by for sure this next race. It looks like Friday is going to be a relatively quiet day seeing as qualifying has been pushed back and the IROC race isn't running, so we may just have to come on over and find you rather than peering from the walkthrough to try and spot your Bounder
We are in Victory Circle, pulling in on Thursday - Row 33 spot 27 right up against the road, so if anyone is cruising around Victory Circle and you see our Cardinal 5th wheel with 43 flag flying from it, pull on into the ditch and stop by. 8)
Steve - I think we're going to be pretty close? A couple of rows apart and at the opposite end of the row - I'll be looking out for you when we are out and about.

03-18-2007, 02:23 PM
yes it does look like we're pretty close. We will be in the Dutchmen pop up with blue trim. Flying the Earnhardt flags cuz the wife won't let me do Stewart!!! No really we just can't find any reasonable priced!! She is busy as I type redoing the inside of the camper in checkered flag pattern! Guess I need to right everyones spot down so I can locate everyone while we are down there. Maybe we should put in a request for a NASCAR CAMPING FLAG!!!!!!! Probably already have them I just haven't seen them

Hi ya'll!!
New to the boards, but not to TMS. Since the IROC race is cancelled, I was just going to make everyone aware of a GREAT event they have in downtown Fort Worth on Friday and Saturday night. It is called "Chevy Thunder Days" and they usually have several drivers out there on friday night for autographs. Having some great live bands: Friday it is Point Blank and Cheap Trick. Saturday: Luke Bryan, Little Texas, Tracy Byrd AND Charlie Daniels. BEST part of this event-----it is absolutely FREE and in the heart of downtown Fort Worth. They have not updated the website to show which drivers will be there, I believe it will be updated on March 30th.
You can check out the information at www.chevythunderdays.com
ALSO...IF they are offering the LEGENDS Car five lap driving experience, I HIGHLY recommend it...it is only 25.00 and the adrenaline rush you get is unreal!! They do this on the small track just behind the back gates, usually on Saturday morning. I did it last fall and will be there bright and early to do it again.
Check out my TMS page on YOUTUBE.com it is a compilation of photos I have taken over the last four or so years....

Thanks, bigolepig! Good to know. My husband is already shopping for a Jr. flag for our Fleetwood PUP, but I made him get a tiny Smoke sticker to put on the door so I won't feel left out.
The PUP comes out of storage this weekend so we can un-winterize, the Prodigy is installed on the new truck, the battery is charging, the 2nd propane tank will be installed and the generator is being broken in. I don't know if we'll have times for any more mods before we leave on the 10th, but I am so ready.

After the 2 guys died at Dega, tracks wont allow you to fly the metal or alumimum ones.
Some one else here bought one, cant remember though who that was, but we could do a whole column on flags and poles, I will see what our webmaster says, send in pics!!

I know i have posted that we will be in row 36 spot #2 in the Dutchmen pop up with the blue trim, jr. flags and banners, hopefully some Stewart ones if the wife will let me..lol.

Beerlifter, thats a great idea, :D I hope you guys all have fun, maybe I should get a banner made up for you guys, so you could take a picture and then we could post it, so I and everyone else can feel jealous :(
Here is a game you can all play, its a drinking game so hold onto your socks
We now just hit member # 100, so you need to have a beer for each member that cant make it to the race.
Anyone whom wants to partake in this game, you can tell the other half it is an official rule of Nascar Campers, and it will help raise the spirits of us poor folk at home crying cause you guys are having a great time.
We can alter the rules as we see fit, and as membership rises, we would have to understand that participants might be drunk most of the time......
Hmmmmm this game just might work

They finally released the list of drivers appearing at Chevy Thunder Days in Downtown Fort Worth
Kyle Busch
Clint Bowyer
Casey Mears
Kenny "HERMAN" Wallace
J.J. Yeley
The drivers will be there from 6pm to 8pm on Friday night...BUT the catch is you HAVE to get out there bright and early on Friday morning and participate in the Chevy Test Drive. They open that at 7am, you have to fill out a waiver, blow in a breathalyzer, and you have to have your drivers license with you. Then they let you test drive your choice of Chevy cars around downtown Fort Worth...they have a few give aways with that, and then you get a wristband that will enable you to get in line that evening for the autograph session. I had a riot on my test drive as the guy that was my ride along let me take off like a wild woman at the one light...(my husband was in the car next to me...I HAD to do it  )
Again, the event is FREE! There are alot of displays and a downtown Fort Worth is just incredible. Don't forget the live music...parking is free after 5pm...It is VERY easy to get to this from TMS...about a 15 mile drive I believe, but it is a straight shot to and from.

Laura (DW) is probably a bigger fan than I and has done the living room in what I like to call "Early Earnhardt". Below is a picture of our living room. We have added alot of new items since these were taken such as jr and sr bean bag chairs, mini jr car hood and lots more!

Really excited, scored some qualifying day pit passes on eBay, so I am hoping to come up with some great photos to share with everyone!
I think I am going to do some handy work and make a flag/banner with the website name on it as well...want to try to get down to trackside live at some point and hold it up on TV for the world to see...
I am busting at the seams!! WOOOOOOHOOOOO :o :o :o :o HOHOHOHOOO! :o

Laura got the checkered flag curtains done last night and installed in the camper. Took a little longer than she expected so the vallance will have to wait til we get back!
Everyone look for me...I'll be the one with a BUD in my hand and my butt in my Tony Stewart camp chair!!!!!

I think the title alone describes the beginning of our race weekend adventure to TMS.
The weather was HORRIBLE on friday...I did't realize this little piggy could yell wee wee wee and run so fast to seek refuge in a Domino's pizza booth at the Track. Didn't get to use our qualifying day pit passes obviously...so no good pictures.
DID get to see Robby today!! His trailer was parked around Gate 6 and he was in his sweet off road looking golf cart. So...as he was leaving we were behind the trailer and I just jokingly ask..."Hey...can my daughter and I have a ride to the Tunnel"... He SAID YES!! OMG!! So we hopped in and went for a once in a lifetime ride!! I mentioned to him about the whole fan sponsorship idea and he said that they have been throwing around that idea and still working out the "investor" return portion...but it IS possible and plausible!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!! :D
I got to meet up with Beerlifter and Mrs. Beerlifter!!...he came by a couple of times, each time I was gone. I think it worried the people next to us, since they were expecting a bigolepig to be camping next to them...hahaha!! Also got the pleasure of meeting mtnred...was not too far from either of them. Also, a ENORMOUS thank you to Cushenberry for the tickets!! I SO want to try to get a camping spot in "your area" next time.
I handed out SOME flyers and hope to have recruited a few new members to our forum. I planned on handing the bulk of them out on Saturday night, HOWEVER...due to the mayhem and the "riot" as I was told...I chose to stay at our camper and go to bed early. They closed the entrance to get into the camp grounds sometime right around 915-ish and were denied entrance due to whatever was going on...so we sat out there for 45 minutes and finally turned the truck around and went to the overflow lot and hoofed it briskly back to the camper...So hopefully the people I got the flyers to, some of them will magically appear here...
ALL in all it was a great but MEMORABLE weekend. All I know is on Friday it seemed liked everything I touched, looked at, thought about was a dissaster...but today's beautiful weather and good fortune MORE than made up for the doom and gloom on Friday...
Let's start planning for November!!!

That is great about Robby Gordon, I guess with all the bad weather this more than made up for it :D
I was watching qualifying, and then found out about the rain delay, and then cancellation, anytime my satellite signal goes in and out, I know the weather must have been bad...
Waz up with this riot? would be interesting to hear more about this....
Did you get a pic with you and RG?

04-16-2007, 01:07 AM
I think one of the people that was with me snapped a picture on her cell phone...will let you know...I had the camera with me...GO FIGURE!! :? It was one of those moments in my life where the "what's the worst he is going to say...YES?" Totally solidified my opinion of him...I just wish other fans would realize how great he is to his fans...would have a sea of Jim Beam shirts in the stands on Sunday's...
I am not entirely sure WHAT was going on...but after sitting on Victory Circle for 45 minutes I decided to go up there and find out what the hold up was...the security and the police officer said it was a "riot" and the PD was taking care of it as quickly as they could...so no telling when the entrance was reopened...all I know is IF they didn't get it opened soon there was going to be a riot out on that road too...

And all too quickly it's over  We had a great time meeting Steve and Laura - even though I was determined to call her Becky all weekend  Thanks to them we also got to meet Mtnred and her hubby. We were out in the "riot" on Saturday night. Don't know exactly how it got started but we were right on Harmonson Road watching the "parade" when someone "allegedly" threw a beer bottle at one of the police. Needless to say we decided to head on out of there and found all kinds of other places where they were having fun. I will say thought that I don't remember when they didn't close the access gate there at Harmonson Road on Saturday night. :?
Melissa - Sorry I didn't get to meet you - and I missed your great pig beads!! The weather was partly to blame, it really cut down on our out-and-about time.
Rick - We stopped by your place but it was deserted.  Know I know why we could never see your rig from the walk through   I'm sure you were all at the track - we walked into the middle of your set up and looked around - but it was deserted.
The weather was a little hairy on Friday - and too bad that we didn't see qualifying. Our grand plan was to hit the drainage ditch - that was about the only place to go! Not a great weekend for the 43 or the 88, but it was still a good, fun racing weekend. Can't wait for the fall race.

We got home about 4 pm this afternoon and then had to go to the ER with my husband. He twisted his knee at a campground in New Mexico on the way home and it was swollen the size of a basketball today when we got home.
It was so terrific to meet everyone this past week! We didn't get to spend much time with everyone due to the weather related issues, but it was sure fun.
We drove into the middle of the mess, inadvertently, just before the "riot" started. There was a flat bed truck with guys with beads, then 2 girls doing the whole "girls gone wild" thing with hundreds of drunk guys watching and taking pictures. A sheriff showed up right when we were trying to drive through and helped us not run over a bunch of people. After that, we stayed at our camper and laughed at all the drunks stumbling by.
We were at the whole qualifying storm thing and spent some quality time in a concession stand with funnel cake batter and a large group of our "closest" friends.

P.S. How did I manange to bring home 11 beers?!?! I must be doing something wrong!?!?!
Yeah, Joe didn't get a chance to come visit you.
BTW - we went back to the top of Raton Pass but it was raining so we didn't do a full search. Didn't find it. We found a dealer in Denton who was happy to sell us another crank. Does that officially count as the first SPUT of the year?
jennyt43fan
04-18-2007, 10:57 AM
Melissa - I'm glad that pig beads are still on the cards for us! I have to agree with you - I think I was in bed by 9 pm twice! Of course that was countered with being up until 3 the rest of the time! :P
Steve - we also came back with almost a 12 pack...we are blaming it on the weather - it was hard to enjoy a cold frosty beer when the wind is freezing you to death! That's our excuse anyway! It truly was no big deal about the generator - trust me we wouldn't have been anywhere NEAR as hospitible if we had to run the A/C! :P
I will be calling on 5/2 to get our November spot. We also hook up with some people we met there last year and so we try to coordinate with them also. We typically try to get an end spot right where we were this time.
Susan - sorry to hear about your hubby's knee - I hope that he heals quickly
Shirley - we are always easy to get to as our site is right on Victory Circle and you can just pull in and park right at the ditch line. So many people park there and walk in to the campground that it's actually hard to find a spot! You could walk anywhere in the campground from there - but depending on where people are camped you could have quite a hike.

Jenny, sorry to say but I dont think that you can enlarge it in Photobuckets, I know that photobucket will let you make the picture smaller. There is a place in photobuckets that said "Do Not Resize Photo" you may wont to try that.
Webshots will make the pictures larger, but when you post it on here you will have to us the at the top to post it.

I just want to Thank Chris for this website...and everyone else who contributes. I am so fired up about this, I wish I could go again next week!! Perhaps I could travel the circuit and sell bigolepig-legs. Kind of like the turkey legs they sell. We have our site also - Victory Circle - Row 31 spot 33. :D :D :D
Rick (or anyone else for that matter) - Next year I'm thinking of switching over the the "other side" so that I don't have to fight for a spot all the time. Do you do that when you renew your season tickets - do you know how that works? I was going to ask when I called the ticket office yesterday, but I know they are always swamped the first day that sites go on sale. Somehow the spots seem smaller to me over there - and the party "seems' a little more rowdy. Plus all the sites out in Victory Circle are pull throughs - so I'm not completely sold, but I'm interested in seeing if there's anything that might work out.
Oh also I forgot to do a quick "Kudos" to the TMS ticket office staff. When we were leaving on the Monday after the race, they hadn't opened the gates from the Victory Circle campground that open up right onto the roadway. Everyone was having to funnel down onto Harmonson Road - which is NO fun - we've done that before. I called the ticket office (only # I had) and asked if they could get something done about it. The guy that answered said that they'd get someone out there - I hung up thinking that it would probably never happen - 20 mins later they had them open! 8) I thought it was pretty cool that they actually followed up and did what they said they would.

We are in the Lone Star Circle Reserved Turn 3 Camping- here we have season parking we have to pay the $450 a year to keep the same spots. You may be able to select a spot in this area but most of these spots are taken on a season parking not on a per race basis. We love our area- see if they have anyting in SS or PP or QQ these spots are close to the stands and are nice sized.

We want to camp in November and I was wondering if you guys could help with a few questions. Are you all season ticket holders? We are not. I am a season ticket holder and can tell you CALL NOW to get your camping site...they just went on sale for the Fall race last Wednesday. The majority of us camp in the Victory Circle camp grounds, it is 150.00 per spot, and you can look at the map and choose where you want. I am going to be at 82 1&2 (big pigs need more than one spot)...call the speedway ticket office at 817-215-8500 to reserve your spot.

You are not going to get hookups at TMS without big big...rephrase BIG bucks. They only have ONE lot that has electric and water. Those are sold by the season, and you might be lucky to score one for 1500-2000 for the weekend.
Dry camping the rest of the place...I sold the tickets I had available last week on eBay. Don't have an extra spot...but will keep my eyes  and ears open for you!

There is a campground just up the interstate (I-35W) that has hookups - I think it might be Paradise RV Park. There are certainly other RV parks around the area, you will just have to allow for traffic in and out of the track.
As Melissa said, apart from the asphalt lot that has full hookups and is VERY expensive, everything else onsite is dry camping (bring your own water, generators etc).

yeah, don't you recall my failed attempt to contact TMS to get that info. Was going to do all the leg work, but they advised me they "charge" for that kind of stuff...

I purchased these same tickets for the April race, They are GREAT seats,
Rick, you bought tickets for NASCAR from me through Stub Hub last year. I have two seats for the upcoming November weekend for sale due to my buddies deer hunting.
The Trucks are Friday night October 31st, the Nationwide Saturday November 1st and Sprint Cup is Sunday November 2nd..
Before I put them on Stub Hub, I wanted to offer them to you for face value. That is $ 225 each for the two tickets for all 3 races so $ 550 for the pair.
Section PU402, row 42, seats 12 and 13. They are right on the Start Finish line 42 rows up in the PSL seating.
Please advise.

Not sure how many of you have "extras" that show up to your campsite...TMS has changed their policy on the outside camping overflow parking lot for Victory Circle and Lone Star Campgrounds.
For those cars WITHOUT the striped campground stickers, there is a 20.00 PER DAY charge to park in the overflow lot. People who have a campsite may purchase a sticker for 20.00 for the entire weekend for the extra vehicles. This does not get you entrance into the campgrounds, just in the overflow lot that is across from Tent City.
Plan ahead!!
