It's been a pretty happening summer of racing here in the Maritimes. We started off with Regan Smith and David Reutimann in the 250 lap event at Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

Tommorrow night Ken Schrader is strapping into a Sportsmen class stock car at Scotia Speedworld in Halifax, Nova Scotia for a 50 lap event, plus heats...

From Checkerstowreckers.com: NASCAR driver Ken Schrader will go from a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series ride at Bristol Motor Speedway Wednesday night to this sportsman car at Scotia Speedworld Friday night.

Schrader will race in the sportsman division Friday night at Scotia Speedworld in a car out of the Scott Alexander's Dartmouth race shop.

The Friday Weekly Racing Series show at Scotia Speedworld will also feature the Bandolero, Thunder, Lightning and Legends divisions as well as a one-hour autograph session featuring Ken Schrader. The pit gate opens at 4 p.m.; the grandstand gates and the box office open at 5 p.m.; practice starts at 5:15 p.m.; the show starts at 7 with heat races for all five divisions, then the Bandoelro feature, then the one-hour autograph session and the 50-lap sportsman race, followed by semis and features for the other divisions.

And then on Labour Day weekend at Speedway 660 in Geary, New Brunswick, the maritimes best stock car racers battle with Sterling Marlin in an annual prostock 250 lap event.

From Speedway660.com: All the way from Tennessee to the Geary Woods! Two Time Daytona 500 Champion Sterling Marlin has announced his intentions to enter the 9th Annual Peterbilt 250 at Speedway 660. Marlin will join a strong list of Southern Stars who have competed in the Labour Day Classic. Over the past several years fans have seen Johnny Benson, Terry & Justin Labonte and Ron Hornaday take battle against the best Pro Stock teams in the Northeast.

“I’m excited; these home grown short track events are what our sport was built on. This is a huge race for the Atlantic region and I’m really looking forward to racing the best up there!” said Sterling in a phone interview.

Schrader had a pretty decent showing. He got caught up in someone else's mess and did a ton of cosmetic damage to the right side and rear of the car in his heat race. By the time they got ready to start the feature they had it looking new. He started 3rd, ran as high as 2nd and finished 4th. Not too bad considering he has only run a Sportsman once before. He then stayed for a few hours and signed autographs till the line was done, regardless of the fact his flight left at 6am the next morning for New York. Class act all the way, and a true racer!! I was talking to a few folks I know that work Scotia Speedworld and they are trying to get another big name for the end of the season races this year, details to follow.

Looking forward to the race in Geary in 2 weeks with Sterling Marlin. We're driving up Saturday night after work and staying at the track. I haven't been there in a few years and will get to see the big show on Sunday, then head for home on Monday morning.
