My Daughter and a friend are going to Dover with us this year. Since I have owned my own scanner for a good while, kind of lost track on what it cost to rent them.

i usally rent the sprint fan view! if you are a sprint customer it's 29.99 for the whole weekend. if your not a sprint user then it's only 39.99. you can get it with 2 headsets! i think the others are like from 19.99 and up for the weekend.

I didn't know they still rented these units! After reading your post I went to the web site and reserved mine for Bristol. It is 49.99 if your not a Sprint customer (which I'm not) but still a heck of deal in my book. The Track Scan scanner is $40 for the weekend so for $10 you get alot more.

Did you choose the option to return it at the track or via UPS? I've never rented a scanner or Sprint Fan View @ the track but I have to wonder, how long is the wait to return something like that at the hauler after the race weekend? Is it as simple as them scanning a bar-code or do you have to exchange some sort of information?
Another question for you Sprint Fan View users. I see on their website that they have a range of up to a mile. For those of you that are familiar with Bristol and the Landing Campground..... Do you think the Sprint Fan View would work at that range? I'm sure that sounds like a dumb question but I have my reasons for asking.

Actually I didn't choose, I think you choose when you get to the track. It said changing your options at the trailer was easy. I hope the return line isn't to bad, they have been doing this for some time now at different tracks so maybe they got a good system. Thats not a dumb question at all, actually thats a great question in my eyes! I want to know too! I LOVE technology. Imagine replays in the stands.

I'm sure that you can choose that return method at the track. I saw it as an option on their web site. It's an additional $10 but depending on the wait it may be worth it.
At two of the races that we go to, we sit behind people that use the Fan Scan. I always catch myself checking it out during the cautions. I could never justify renting one as I already have a couple of scanners and all kinds of headsets, splitters, amplifiers, etc....

the lines at the haulers aren't to bad and all they do is scan it back in and off you go!! i did ups mine back when i was a dega in the fall....the idiots moved the trailer and i was not going against the grain in that mess!! but heck that was easy too!
the one mile range is pretty accurate! i would think that it would reach to the landing, but i'm sure it also depends on obstructions and clouds and blah blah blah!
i love the fan view! it's like having it all, TV coverage, live action, leader board with speeds....love love love it!
have a great time and come on down to dega when you get a chance! we have a great group from here on the board that go every year and all camp together! we have a great time!

In my experiance (before we bought scanners), the return lines were shorter than the line to rent them in the first place! ;-) There are usually quite a few people working in those booths. It's a simple hand in / bar code scan and you're off.
Not sure if the FanView takes normal batteries, but make sure they give you extras, or better yet bring some JUST in case. You won't run out if you only do one race - but if you use the scanner for practices, qualifying, NW, Cup, etc you'll likely be pushing the battery life for most traditional scanners (again, can't speak for FanView).

fan view does not take regular batteries. they give you an extra along with a charger to recharge both batteries as needed! just make sure the charger is in your little bag! you WILL need to charge them up at night!!
