Wow..that place looked like it was 50% if that. High prices...lack of good racing..bad economy...=empty seats !

Yeah, if there's anywhere that doesn't deserve 2 races (judging by attendance), it's Fontana, or as my neighbor from CA says, "Fontucky."

The cynic in me started wondering if some of the infield RV's were planted to make it look full.

That looked like the only place that was full.

Shameful, empty seats in the car culture capital of America!!!
Lose the second race at ACS, and give it to some other track more deserving of a race.

Magicmiller I could not agree more.

And no more talk of NHIS loosing a race with sell outs at both races and I'm sure the economy is no better in the Northeast where the fans are dedicated to the sport ;)

Nascar.com has an article on the empty seats.

1 ISC track and 1 SMI track most likely will be losing a race after this season. Kansas will be getting a second race because it was part of the agreement to get the casino built at the track. That race is either going to come from Martinsville or California. Kentucky is also going to get a race and in my opinion that will be the Spring Atlanta race or the Oct Charlotte race.

Fontana has to be a huge disappointment to NASCAR. Their hosting a race in one of the most populated regions in the country but you could never tell this when the television camera captures all of the empty seats. They did fairly well with attendance when they only hosted one race. Maybe it's time to get back to one race on the schedule for them.

There was some discussion on NASCAR Sirius radio about the empty seats at the race, then a fan from that area called in to give his two cents on the subject, and he made some sense. He talked about the very high rate of unemployment in that area, the number of companies what have closed over the past 2 years, the number of people that have move out of the area in search of jobs. Then he talked about how many fans used to go the races in Fontana and Vegas, but due to the economy, they now can only afford to go to one or the other, and since Vegas has more to do, many are choosing to go there only.

And as I remember last year, a lot of tracks had a lot of empty seats. I went to races in Atlanta and at Lowes, and both had quite a few empty seats. However the two races I attended at NHMS were very well attended.
