RIO GRANDE-- A Middle Township public works employee had to be rescued when he became stuck in a hole here on Second Ave on Friday, March 5.

According to public works director Andrew Smith, John Oliva, 31, of Court House was jetting a line to help alleviate flooding when he became stuck up to his thigh in muddy water. 9-1-1 was called when Oliva said he was getting cold and three other employees were unsuccessful in attempting to pull Oliva out.

The Rio Grande Fire Department and Rio Grande Rescue Squad responded to the scene with Medic 10. Oliva was rescued within 15-20 minutes of when he initially became stuck, Smith said.

Oliva was transported to Cape Regional Medical center for evaluation. Smith said he believed Oliva was going to be released today

Wow...just glad to know that you are alive and well. I could not imagine having that happen. I think the anxiety of being stuck would probably been what would have been my demise...yikes.

Again, glad you are okay...would miss having you around here...cause after all you DO have the best rack!! :p;)
