Damn... what a day for my TrackPass not to work!!! This would have been good!

From Jayski...

Crew chief Lance McGrew didn't hold back the tough love with driver #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr. on Sunday. The first snipe came after Junior complained about a loose car following pit stops during the fifth caution on Lap 205. McGrew replied, "Yes, but you're eight positions better than you were." When the seventh caution was called on Lap 324, the #88 was up to sixth and was busted by NASCAR for "excessive speed entering the pits" and was forced to drop back to 26th. McGrew coached his driver with a "lots of laps man, we can get this back." But Earnhardt sounded dejected on the radio. He was furious at the sanctioning body and its pit-road scoring system. "Well, anyhow. To get busted at Bristol for (expletive) speeding by what-the-(expletive)-ever it was and when I didn't (expletive) gain nothing on nobody, it's not the way it should be," exlaimed Earnhardt. "There should be a different way of doing it. You bust your (expletive) to get up there. Now they can't be (expletive) (expletive) about every (expletive) little nitpickin' (expletive) thing. We're out here racing our (expletive) off." And with Earnhardt deep in traffic, he radioed the car was "pushing like a truck." That's when McGrew let loose.
"Don't lay down on me, bud," McGrew screamed. "I can't lay down here," Earnhardt replied. "This is Bristol. I don't ever (freakin') lay down. Don't ever say that again on the radio. Don't need the whole world hearing that." While little was said between driver and crew chief following the heated exchange, Earnhardt collected himself and salvaged a seventh-place finish that enabled him to jump five positions to eighth in the point standings. Although Earnhardt was not available for comment after the race, team owner Rick Hendrick seemed pleased with the #88 team's improvement. "They've worked really hard," Hendrick said. "Lance and Dale have great chemistry. I think if you listen to them on the radio, they're working well together. Dale had a great car. He would have been in the top five or had a real shot at it himself had he been able not to have that speeding penalty."

it was a hoot Casey - had me chuckling for a bit... And here's the kicker, if he hadn't been penalized for speeding, he'd probably been in that wreck.... Funny how things work out.

Dale Jr. brought up a good point concerning pit road speeding penalties. Most drivers are just a tick over the limit and do not improve thier position. Maybe Nascar should look at changing the rule to:

1st violation < 5 mph - WARNING,
2nd violation < 5 mph - PASS THRU
1st violation > 5 mph - PASS THRU
2nd violation > 5mph - 5 PIT STOP - NO SERVICE ALLOWED
3rd violation > PARK IT BEFORE YOU KILL A CREW MEMBER

I don't disagree with you, but keep in mind that NASCAR already always them a 5 mph cushion over the stated speed limit. When they get caught for "just over" the limit, they are actually just over the 5mph cushion.

We was laughing at JR too! He dropped the "F" bomb about 50 times in 2 minutes! He also told NASCAR what he thought of them and the speeding penalty. But like Tim said, when his crew chief said he was only .06 over, he was really 5.06 over. I don't know why they even give a cushion, everybody just pushes it to that so that is really pit road speed.

It sprinkled a few times on Sunday - but by keeping the cars out under caution and getting the jet dryers running, they never lost the track. Friday and Saturday were perfect. Mid 60's during the day, and cool enough at night to make the fire feel really good.

Ok, so I gotta ask your opinion - what was up with the empty seats? Economy? Weather? People staying at home to watch the healthcare vote?

All the above. :)

Sunday forecast killed any sort of walk-up traffic. I think a lot of people are probably choosing to go to just the summer race instead of both. We met a lot of Bristol first-timers .. many more than usual. We had almost a whole row in the Earnhardt Terrace behind us that was empty. It will be interesting to see what they do for next year. This year they had a season ticket holder drawing for everything from hats/coozies to hot passes. The season package was less expensive than last year, and included the truck tickets for the summer weekend (they were separate before). I think The Landing was technically sold out, but there were a ton of empty spots.

The racing has become different there over the past few races, since they widened the track. There are 3-4 grooves now so they don't have to bump-n-run to pass as much as they used to. I like it better, but I know there are a bunch of people that feel it made the racing worse and aren't going.

***An intersting side note - we just got a mailer from Charlotte which has a couple of different offers. The most interesting 1 is buy 4 Upper Ford frontstretch tickets for $400 (which is a savings of $140 it says) and get 4-$100 airline vouchers.

Yeah I heard same thing about fans complaining about the wider track. That was my first trip to Bristol, we got our tickets from a season ticket holder who could not go. We heard a lot of people complaining about the wider groves and less contact. I think alot of people go there to see lots of rubbing and wreckin! Anyhow, seemed good to me. Didn't camp there this time but stayed in a B&B about 40 miles away. Found a back way in to the track and was on I-81 within 1/2 hour of the race end! One of the fastest exits I have ever made out of a track! But yes there were lots of empty seats and many of the campgrounds didn't look full
