This was so cool and so much fun I just have to share it. My son (Knute2) who posts here about his pit stop adventures, was pitting the 47 truck in Kansas today, and I just happened to be in the area (Dallas) so I drove up to watch the race. I brought my headset and scanner fully expecting to watch the race from the stands, since it was a last minute thing he really didn't have enough time to arrange for a pit pass for me. Well, he pulled off some magic and was able to get me a pass, so to the pits I went.
Well, they were short 1 man on the crew, they needed someone to wave the pit stop flag for the car and catch the tires coming back from the front end, so they recruited me! I had on my cargo pants, red Segway tee shirt, then I tossed on the headset, they gave me one of their team scanners, and I was at the wall for the race. They told me exactly what to do and when to do it. I think we did a total of 4 stops (1 for gas, two for tires, and 1 for damage) before the truck had to go behind the wall for repairs and ended up with a DNF due to the amount of damage.
Anyway, it was wicked cool and a great time, I just had to share it, and I even got on tv! My 5 minutes of fame!
