we had some hamburger in the freezer and forgot it. then, the power was out for a while. the hamburger turned to a bloody pile of stinky disgusting slop. my better half actually cleaned it up, as i personally didn't have the ability! i was going to have it done professionally!
either way, we got most of the stink out. but there's still a lingering effect. what's the best way to get the smell out completely? will it need a brand new unit, or are there some tricks?! thanx in advance!

Buy a large can of coffee grinds, spread around inside of fridge on any surface they will stay put and place the can with the remaining grinds in the fridge and close the door and leave for a few days (fridge off). May have to repeat.

Did u try the coffee grounds? Did they work? We just had the same thing happen and it is nasty. I have baking soda in there now and was curious if the coffee grounds worked....

Coffee will work:!:... you can put the coffee in a normal coffee filter or several filters, close up the fridge and leave it for a while. It will take away the odor; it may take a while but it will work. We have used coffee when a cooler gets the funk from forgetting to clean it out...or when one of our coolers will be stored for a while. It may smell like fresh ground coffee for a while...:-|But that's better than the funk...

The baking soda in the fridge/freezer is just a myth.

i figured it was, or at least just not potent enough. we for sure tried that but there was NO difference. had a birthday party and a "kid leaving for college" party this weekend, and next weekend is kentucky speedway. so, i'll be going to the camper with my coffee and sheets hopefully the weekend AFTER!

so far, so good! i spread a crapload of the coffee grounds out in the bottom of the freezer and during the weekend, the smell was FOR SURE coffee! i don't know if taking the grounds OUT will let the stinky part come back, but for now, all's well.
worked for me!!

quick update. . . i'm diggin' the smell of coffee in the morning when i open the freezer! :D
we've got 2 or 3 weekends left before i close it up for the year. . . and obviously leaving the grounds in it all winter. then, the big test will be spring when i open it back up. i'll take all the grounds out then, wait a month or so, and hopefully still have good news to report!

When you winterize it, clean the hell out of it with bleach first. The problem is that the bacteria from the rotting meat actually gets into the plastic. You need to kill it off! Leave open boxes of baking soda in there over the winter, don't leave the coffee! If you leave your fridge doors cracked, which you should, the coffee can attract raccoons! Those buggers will eat ANYTHING! Friends of ours had the inside of their camper wrecked by those critters! All because they left some coffee, tea and some spices in there over the winter!
