Hi all, newbie to this forum. Looking for some advise. next year will be our 1st year camping at Daytona. We have a slot in the West Lot (couldn't afford the infield this time around) We are renting a 24ft self contained RV for this venture. Having never camped there before primary questions are.
1. Is there a service that comes around the campsite that will pump out your waste tanks and that you can refill your water tanks from? I'm totally expecting to pay for the service just wondering if there is such a thing.
2. Per Daytona the West Lot slots are open for folks early in Feb, howver we won't be showing up until Wed before the Duals, my slot will still be there for me right? reason for asking is a friend of mine went to Dover and he said that slots were 1st come 1st serve. They gave me a lot number so I am assuming it will be open for me whenever I get there?
3. I will be showing up by myself with RV on Wed and friends are flying in on Thurs. Since I will be a single older lady by herself should I be concerned about being by myself for a day?

Thanks for any help/hints etc. Have been to daytona many times over the years for a days worth or racing but never camped. Thought I'd take the opprotunity to try it and the RV thing. If works out I might just buy my own.
Thanks again
gail

Hi Gail and welcome to the campsite!

Never been to Daytona - but our site administrator is the Daytona king - he's got a ton of information. Typically at most tracks they do have services come around to pump tanks and provide water. It's usually about $25 a pop. I would think that if you have a site number, then your site will be there when you get there - just be prepared to have to squeeze your RV in - as people tend to unpack everything but the kitchen sink, and so the sites around you will probably already be full. Plus at most track, again don't know specifically about Daytona, but the sites are pretty small - think sardine cans with a TON of fan memorabilia strewn all over the place.

I wouldn't hesitate to be by myself for a day at a race track. Most of the people that we have come into contact with are just good folk and will probably help you out with getting parked etc, if you are the friendly type and say Hi when you arrive!

I'm sure you'll have a great time and I'm hopefully someone here can give you specifics on the West lot.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Was just talking with someone at work and they got me concerned. They said they thought that even though I have a specific lot # assigned in the west lot that it doesn't mean I will get that site when I get there. They thought it was 1st come 1st serve. My understanding is that you get the lot # you were assigned when yopu bought it. Anyone know for sure. Heard our site adminstrator is a Daytona Guru, I need ya!!!

I'm giving this a friendly bump in the hopes that someone will see your :?: and has some insider info. From their website I just found this. I would think that this is reserved camping from their description.

West Lot Parking
The West Lot is located outside of the Speedway, and is not a viewing area. All guests in the West Lot must have admission tickets prior to entering. West Lot opens Thursday Jan. 24 at approximately 6am, and closes Sunday, January 27 at noon.

Located outside Turns 1 and 2, on the West side of the Speedway
Reserved sites, approximately 20' x 40'
Self-contained vehicles only
Limit: 1 Specialty Vehicle and 1 Tow-Vehicle per site
Cost: $150

I also did a few searches of my own - seems to be that the West lot has been first come first served, but as of 2008 is now reserved only.

Hope that helps some - hopefully someone else will chime in!

One more thing!

Looking at the fan guide I would fully expect that to be reserved camping - and the spot you have reserved is the spot you will be in. I think you are good to go!

The west lot is numbered, the only anyone gets moved is when there are torrential downpours of rain, as there are a few points by the main access road and others that dont drain very well.

But, when this was done in the past they where very good and accomodating about it, one friend said they even made up a little docking type of entrance so they could get in there coach made out of wood!!!

Honey Wagons circle all the time, water is no problem, check out my blog, there is some cool pics there of the services, I took them when I was out " wandering"

JJ hook them up with the link would yah :D

Fire away any other questions, you will have fun

Any idea if campfires are allowed in the West Camping area? Can't seem to find anything on the Speedway website about it. If so should I bring some sort of fire ring, or maybe an old grill to have a small fire in.

If you are in the west parking lot there is a super target right at the intersection.

what a lot of people do is head over there and buy one of those outdoor fire pits.
