When I retract my awning back into the travel position, one end of it doesn't appear to roll up tightly enough, so when its in the travel position, that end isn't solidly against the side of the trailer (its loose, and can easily be pulled out an inch or two from the trailer). I'm been taking a strap and putting it around the awning bracket on the side of the trailer and around the top of the awning, to hold it tight. I've also put a strap around the awning support poles (the 2 poles) so they can't come apart.

Is there any way to tighten up the awning?

sounds like the stopper bolts at the bottom of the arms where it clips into the bottom brackets are out of adjustment count how many holes or what hole the bolt is in on the tight end and match it to the loose end. if there in the same hole just raise the loose end up one hole that will take the slack out of awning and make it close tight.

my stopper bolts are in the same position on both sides, but I'm afraid that if I bring the bolt up one hole on the loose side, that the awning, when in the travel position, which now is just about level with the roof, will now be an inch higher than the roof..... or am I looking and something different that what you are talking about?

thanks

sorry for the late reply is there any chance that you could lower both ends and then reset loose end a little higher or the other thing to check is the hieght from top bolts to bottom bolts and see if there is a difference from one end to the other if so then there is the problem that needs to be repaired
