The World Stood Still
© By Tracy L. Greer

Early one morning on a September day
While we were all busy at work or play

Two towers stood tall as the day before
Not knowing that tomorrow they'd stand no more

When the first plane crashed into tower one
No one knew what had just begun

As people were trying to get out alive
Then plane number two took its dive

Then out of the blue one building fell
You could see people run and hear them yell

As we all sat and watched in fear
We dropped to our knees and sheaded tears

Many workers, children firefighters and more
Were all in the path of the mad men that soared

And as the dust from the building began to fade
We all felt sadness but still we prayed

Then the news that another plane had just went down
Out in Pennsylvania, but it hit the ground

For the passengers that rode that plane that day
Stood up for their country in their own way

What else what else could our country take
But another plane went down and the Pentagon did shake

More people were injured and more lives were lost
And the people that did this would pay the cost

Many lives were lost on that September day
As our world stood, still and each of us prayed

Many people just like you and me
Gave their life to set another one free

And on this day when our world stood still
We all joined as one, in God's Will

For the towers that stood in New York so tall
On September 11th affected us all

I was test driving motorhomes that day I just took it by my mother-in-laws and 2 sisters in law, when we heard what was happening.

It seems like only yesterday.

What where you doing that day?

I seriously don't remember where I was or what I was doing. I'm sure I was at work but all I remember is watching on the TV in the break room not believing what was happening. I do remember the quiet of the days afterwards....no planes flying above, people just not having a whole lot to say. It was like everyone was dumb struck.

My heart goes out to everyone that had someone hurt or killed by that ungodly act. My Dad had just left the Murray building here in OKC when that bomb went off. You will never know the feeling I had when I heard that. Then he tried to go back and help!!! They wouldn't let him. So he came home and put on his Air Force fatigues and went back again. Still wouldn't let him in. My father had been in the Air Force since before I was born and had just retired (due to medical reasons) and felt obligated to help. I love my Dad for this but it just scares the hell out of me!!!!!!

I was at work. Someone there had one of those really small TV's (about a 4in screen) and they were watching it. I heard someone say that a plane just hit the WTC and I went back to see and that was when the plane hit the second one. Very Sad Day for this Nation.

At work. Heard the story about the first plane and so we had the TV on at work and saw the second plane hit. It was such a rollercoaster of emotions between feeling so devastated for those people lost, and yet so grateful that I personally didn't have anyone that I knew.

A Fireman's Prayer
When I am called to duty, God,

Whenever flames may rage;

Give me strength to save some life,

Whatever be its age.

Help me embrace a little child

Before it is too late

Or save an older person

From the horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert

And hear the weakest shout,

And quickly and efficiently

To put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling

And to give the best in me

To guard my every neighbor

And protect his property.

And if, according to my fate,

I am to lose my life,

Please bless with your protecting

My children and my wife.

Was going to go into work a bit late that day because I was meeting a friend for an early breakfast at a resort that he was the GM at. While we were sitting ther chatting outside, enjoying th early morning and breakfast, his C-phone rang. All the color went out of his face and he grapped me and off to his office we went, turned on the tv, had a hard time absorbing what I was seeing and then the 2nd plane hit. Then it went to the Pentagon. Can't begin to describe all of the emotions I felt that day, never did go into work and just sat glued to the TV. Saw some things on the news that am I wish I hadn't. Even now it seems like yesterday, I remember all so vividly. Lost a couple of good friends at WTC that day. Was in NYC Oct of 2001 to visit with family and won't forget driving down the East River Drive, looking up and not seeing those Towers standing there.

I was getting ready for work...flipped on the radio, and all they said at that time was "a plane has hit the wtc"....by the time I got to work, the second plane had already hit...and the third one (Pentagon) happened right after...I just remember sitting at work watching the TV. I just remember our whole life suddenly changed...my husband is Air Force (only one more year to retirement) and we lived in off base housing at the time (it did not require pass and entry before)...when I got home that day, they had heavily armed SP's at the entrance to our housing, and that is when it really hit me...Scared the bejeebers out of my kids to see the weapons and to have our car searched before we could go into our housing area everytime...

The first I heard of it I was on my way to a Doctor's appointment. I heard that a plane crashed into a tower. They didn't explain anything more, so I figured some idiot just flew a small plane into one of the radio towers on top or something, so I put in a CD and didnt think anything more of it.

I finally found out what was going on when I got back to school and everybody was silent. I walked into my class and asked what was going on and people just stared and pointed to the tv that was on. I looked up just in time to see the second plane crash into the other tower. It was a pretty shocking moment.

On a good note though, that night after I got out of work, JJ proposed to me (he had already planned to do that before the plane crashing thing). So something good did come out of that day.
