Have heard different things about the types of flagpoles you can have. It seems to differ from track to track. Any suggestions on a good flagpole that would be acceptable at all tracks?

anything fiberglass.

We got ours from telepole.com. We found them to be reasonable - plus we belong to a Cardinal RV group and they worked with us for a club flag/pole combo.

Oops should have said that they are fiberglass and you can get several different types of mount. I messed up when I ordered and didn't get the Extra heavy duty. The pouring rain and high winds at TMS in the Spring did a number on it and it cracked. But that was exception circumstances (tornados) and we had 3 flags flying on it that were REALLY heavy once they got wet.

ditto on telepole, got the hitch mount set up . Really only good for two flags. We tried the extra loops for the third flag but it's just to much for the pole.

Got mine from Telepole also...they have that nascar combo deal you can't beat...The people there are really nice to deal with as well. I think I ordered mine on a Thursday and had it on Monday! I just got the 16 foot pole with the thingy you drive over.
Didn't keep mine up during the lovely spring weather at Texas...
Actually, we set up, got all the banners, lights, flags..etc etc etc...out...the weather came...put it all up...cleared up...put it all back out...weather came again...took it all down again...Finally got sick of it...had a pretty bare campsite the rest of the week end ...Steve (Beerlifter) got a shot of our camper in the naked state...
I am going to be a nut case by the time the race weekend gets here...I am SO incredibly excited...already...

...weather came again...took it all down again...
Yeah - this was the part that we missed. Took it all down, put it all back up ... DIDN'T take it down for the 2nd go round. Got the awning down but forgot the flag pole, then it was raining so hard that we didn't want to go back outside....hence the cracked pole. <---- there has to be a joke in there somewhere :P
I should probably call Telepole - I wonder if they could get me a new HD pole by next Friday :?:

Okay, I'm about banging my head on the wall trying to find a COMPLETE heavy duty flagpole setup.
The telepole link posted eariler is great, but they no longer have the ground/tire mounts.
Maybe I should just get their HD22 heavy duty fiberglass pole (http://vistaflags.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_58&products_id=1204&<osCsid>) w/ 3x5 American flag (http://vistaflags.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_10&products_id=2&<osCsid>) and have a pedestal made.....?
$78.98 + $5.50 shipping + the cost of the car mount/base pedestal.

We had a receiver on our trailer so I bought a 2" hitch and had a pipe welded to the hitch in place of a ball that will hold our flag pole. Note the bracket on the top was a modification that holds my garden hose while camping.:)

Some tracks will not allow aluminum poles. Safety hazard if they tough electrical wires.

this might sound cheap, but i took 2 10' lengths of pvc pipe, 1 1/4" sch 40 and 1" sch 40. the smaller pipe fits inside the larger one perfectly. I slide one into the other by 2', drilled hole through both, 1/4' bolt them together, sit on rear bumper of camper, strap tie to ladder at top and bottom.. holes drilled in top to hold 2 flags, winds up being 18' tall off of rear bumper.

Flag poles, those you can find on Ebay if you don't wont to make your own. I think that Mr C, Bigolepig or Buddlite may have some. I am interested in getting another one. So, if anyone runs across some that is a good price post it here. Steve wonts one that he can mount on the ball on the back of the RV.

Just wanted to add a note here...
I got a new 21 foot pole from VistaFlags.com a couple of weeks before the Texas Race. We had brutal winds that whole weekend. Two of the swivals that hold the flags and clips on broke. :(
So I emailed Vista and a new set of swivals arrived within a week. They guarantee their poles, and swivals for one year. They are really nice people to deal with...this is the second pole we have bought. (We still have and use the first one...without any problems! Just ran out of space on the original flag pole to accomodate our divided household..:p)

I made a flag pole out of 1" and 1 1/4" pvc. the 1" pipe fits perfectly inside the 1 1/4" pipe. I slide it inside the larger pipe just 2' and drilled a 1/4" hole thru both pipes and put a 1/4" bolt thru both pipes. both pipes were 10' long which after together made an 18' pole.
Since then, I purchased one from camping world.
http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/portable-20-telescoping-flagpole/36113
It goes on sale now and then for half price, normally $221, bought it on sale for $111, had a $75 gift card
The flag pole is awesome, has a heavy duty base that goes under rear jack leg of RV, holds 2 flags and comes with an American flag.
watch for the sale! also telescopes very nicely

Thanks all, I made my flag this past weekend for the 600 and tryed it out at our campsite for the all star race and it works great!!! a 1 1/2' pvc pipe with a 2' pvc pipe works everytime. And I made it all for about 8 dollars so for all of you people that do not want to spend 50 or more dollars on a flag pole from one of the websites try this one. I will put pictures up next week sometime. Lets go racing boys!!!!

Old thread I know, but just had my inaugural run with my new flag pole this past weekend at Bristol. I got the 25' Telepole from Vista Flags (http://vistaflags.com/product_info.php?cPath=2_58&products_id=2471) based on feedback from previous posts. I'm very pleased with the pole. Sturdy, collapses nicely for storage (the main reason I upgraded over my earlier man-made PVC creation), and love having three flags.
Everything was fine until I ran right over the ball topper with my truck. Had to make a run to Wally World... I took the pole out of the hitch mount and laid it down on the right side of the truck. I got distracted and didn't leave right away...and sure enough when I did I ended up running over the top end of the pole as I pulled a way. STUPID STUPID STUPID. Small miracle I didn't do any damage other than crushing the little plastic screw in ball. I guess now I have a reason to buy one of those flashing light toppers.
Anyways... appears to be a good pole that will last awhile, I hope.

Just another idea of what you can do if you make your own pvc pole, something to prevent the flag from wrapping around the pole. When I built mine I almost put 2 eye bolts through the pole to secure the flag to, then I came up with another idea.
On the top of the pvc flagpole I put a pvc cap on it with an eye bolt through the center of that, facing upwards, and attached the top of the flag to that. I didn't tighten the eyebolt with a regular nut, instead I used one of those nuts with a plastic insert that won't loosen up, and I left it just loose enough so it would swivel.
On the bottom of the flag, I tied both ends of a short string (maybe 10 inches) to the eyelet, and to that string I attached a fishing sinker. That string goes around the flagpole, allowing the bottom of the flag to rotate around it, and the sinker keeps the bottom of the flag weighed down so its always straight.
Hey Bigolepig, just wanted to let you know about http://www.gotomycamp.com these flagpoles are almost the same as the other guys out there... but these flagpoles are 22' tall and have locking detent on the bottom three sections to prevent the pole from collapsing! When that pole wears out you have got to try one of these!

This flagpole has locking detents on the bottom three sections that stop the pole from collapsing. You need to find a way for hybrid campers to mount flags! The tire type mounts won't work for us with hybrids because the fold out bunks would prevent their use under the tires and under the front tongue, and most trailers don't have ladders. On mine I have to use a few huge "U" bolts to attach it to my spare tire on the back of the camper.

Just a couple of questions about the gotomycamp flagpoles. How do they compare to poles @ the tracks that for for around 250 bucks?
Have any fellow Canucks ordered from gotomycamp? Did the shipping/duty/brokerage fees seem excessive (that portion more than the cost of the pole)?

I just went to gotomycamp.com to by six flag pole clips. They are $10 for a set of three- seemed reasonable enough to me. Went to check out and they wanted $15 S/H!!! That doesn't seem reasonable to me. Almost doubled the price of the order. I'll look elsewhere.
