Elledge was the driving force behind the acquisition of the No. 88 from Robert Yates Racing. Originally, Elledge had inquired about securing the No. 28, driven by the late Davey Allison, but the discussions ultimately gravitated toward the 88.
"When I went to talk to Robert (Yates) about the 28, we were very sensitive to the heritage that the 28 had, and with Robert Yates," Elledge said. "We got to talking about the possibilities of trading out one of the other numbers. The 88 makes perfect sense, because it's double the 8 (the number Earnhardt has run with Dale Earnhardt Inc. in Nextel Cup racing since his debut in 1999) -- two is better than one in some cases -- and just the fact that we run the No. 88 in our Busch program.
"It's beautiful, it looks great on the car, and we're so excited.
