When ... was the last time a Chase for the Championship race didn't go the full distance?
Never. In 33 Chase races throughout history, not one was shortened...raising questions as to whether it was legitimate that this one should have been. Let's put it this way; you never see a baseball playoff game cut off at six or seven innings due to rain. They always play the game out the whole way through...and if NASCAR wants to be considered up there with the rest of the major sports, maybe they should consider that. On Sunday, they were stuck between a rock and a hard place; calling the race 148 laps in would have robbed several Chasers of solid finishes, and it's hard to do that when you're not giving them a chance to complete the advertised distance.
Yes, I know rules are rules. But baseball will call games at halfway during the regular season...not during the postseason. I think NASCAR should do the same - as tiring as the travel can be, it's their responsibility as the top stock car sanctioning body to set an example and run their playoff in full...on a Monday, if necessary.
