Where do you all camp... at the track in the parking lots (which ones) or at a local campground?

We stay down at the beach (40 mi. away) since we used to live there. Either Cape Henlopen State Park or Delaware Seashore State Park are great if you have a vehicle to get to the track with. Traffic coming up to Dover from the South (on Rt. 1 / 113) is light compared with that from the north. The beach setting is nice at both SPs and it's relatively cheap. If I remember, the Seashore SP does have full hookups and isn't that crowded.

We stay at the delaware state fairgrounds right on rt 13 south of the track. They have water and electric hook ups, a dump station, hot clean showers. There is also a casino and horse racing on site. It's about 20 miles from track but it's all race fans as they are only open for the race week.

I have always stayed at the track, Lot 10. I live about an hour away so I would take camper up about 10 days before the race. The sites are decent. Its a grass field with gravel roads. There are plenty of spots available but the later you get in the further away from the track you will be. The Dover Mall next to the track also rents spaces. Its paved but they do not allow open fires including grills. All but a few of the lots up close to the track are first come first serve.

We actually camped at Delaware State University this past September. They have a campground right across from the track, it was great. You get a nice size spot and the people running the place were great! You can call ahead, and reserve a spot. We got there Friday night and got the last tent camping spot available.

We stay at the Dover Mall, it shares the property line next to the track. Walking time is <15 minutes from the furthest part. This is nice because you do not have to drive anywhere for the entire weekend, and if you forget anything the mall is grocery store are right there. The traffic is a nightmare down there, especially on Sunday.
You can choose to either be on the blacktop or grass area in back of the mall. I have done both. Cost is $150 for the weekend (Friday to Monday). Check in is 24/7.
Pump out service is available, I think around $35-$40. Along with freshwater.
Ice is available at the check in booth, $1.50 per bag.
If you have any more questions please ask.

Ron, depending on where they put you can determine the space size. I know on the pavement they block out spaces (20X40?). I always ask if i can be on a end, even if that means I'm a little farther away. Look at the picture I put in the previous post. I started parking on the grass last year. I like this much better. Once you register a guy will direct you to a spot. I ask then for a end spot. We get there on Friday around 7-8 PM and never have a problem.
It is first come first serve. They only sold out once when the speedway's sites were flooded out.

Used to stay at Berry Van Lines on Lipsic RD across from home depot but they sold the property Private areas may fill up now because they had 1200 spots. They will all be looking for new areas to camp Best bet is to always go early and price and look over the area.

When did they sell that? Were people allowed to camp there for the fall race of 2007?

I think we will do DOver Mall this year. Being in the back lots is not near anything. I like the idea of walking to the mall or grocery. I will definetly shoot for a grass spot. Should arrive on friday late afternoon. See ya at Dover

Ron, when you enter the mall parking lot off of Rt 13, stay to your left. Looking at the mall from Rt.13 you need to be on the left side, opposite of Sears. Then you will see signs for RV parking. The grocery store is Acme, the strip mall next to Sears or infront of the track on Rt13.
We will not be at Dover this June, we have been going to Bonnaroo (www.bonnaroo.com) instead for the last three years.

We have been camping at Dover for many years now. We used to be in Lot #3 before they closed it down. We are in Lot #2 now and attend both races every year. We are actually going to try Pocono again this August after many years of not going there.
