Am interested in personal opinions of the camping at the track for the 2008 spring race. 5th wheel trailer, totally self contained, but don't want to camp in real low areas. Also are tickets usually abundant to be purchased within the camping area?

I will be going to Martinsville for the first time for the Spring 2008 race. We have a camping spot on the North Lot. Couldnt get one on the upper backstretch without getting season tickets. I am curious how the camping spot will be. I will be sure to post some info after the race.

Bring some stout walkin' shoes. Never camped there, but have attended a dozen or so races at the Paper Clip, and noted that the campground area isn't what you could easily define as "flat". Darn purty, though.

The track itself is the only level part of the property. Rolling hills abound. I can recall a race back in the early 90's where we had a brief shower just as the race was ending. Typically, the gang we traveled with would tailgate (before and) after the race to beat the traffic. In this particular instance, there was enough moisture on the ground to make for some quality post-race entertainment as the haulers attempted to make it up the slopes to exit the track.

Ron 48,
You won't have any problem getting in if you plan to arrive on Thursday and none getting out if you leave on Monday. After the race is when its difficult to get out away from the track cause there is one road for egress - route 220.

The track has made many improvements regarding the campground the past couple of years. Used to be the best sites were along the train tracks and everyone else were parked on the hill but now they have leveled the campground area out. It's still hilly in some places but a heck of a lot better than say 5 years ago. The worst part is the red clay. If it rains (or now as the race is scheduled, snows) that red clay can make a mess of things quickly.

Jade Racing,
Can't personnally say about the low areas in the track's campground but even if you don't stay at the there, plenty camping abounds around the track at nearby businesses and across from route 220 (which definetly have low areas).

As for tickets, there are plenty to be found. Mainly see folks selling tix near the Pavillion Ticket booth (letter M on the speedway map) or just outside the main ticket office (letter A on the speedway map).

Juniorfan88 when you reply about bringing extra wood are meaning 4x4 to level up or are you talking pieces of 2x8?

JUNIORFAN88

i usually bring two jack stands to put under the trailor to level itand a jack with 2x6 or lnyx levlers would bring 2 2x6 for under your tires in case it rains for traction when you leave. if they are calling for rain bring a couple bales of hay to spread around your site dont have to worry about walking on the red clay.and they sell for about the price of gold if you buy them around the track. they say you cant reserve the same spot but when your there walk around and pick out spot # you like and when you renew your tickets ask for the sitee you want. i have had the same spot for 3 years in the fall race last row back against the woods spots are way longer could fit 2 campers if you wanted. Hope this helps.

I would like to thank all for your info about this event, as I ordered tickets from the track and they appear to be not bad .I would like to know about getting water, drinkable when we get to the track area,as I was informed by the ticket office that there was no place to fill except by purchsing from a water truck. This would be a first as no other track I have stayed at has charged for this service. I am hoping to arrive on Wed. nite .A 12 hour drive to this track, almost the same as Bristol. Comments about which camping area to stay at at the track is a little baffling as no reserved were left and a little help would be appreciated .

Heres what we do, and we(Wife and I) dry camp this way at Darlington and other tracks for 4-5 days straight.
My fresh water tank is 60 gallons. I fill up of course before arriving. I also bought some 4 6-gallon water jugs at Wal-mart. I store tanks in basement of fifth wheel. This gives me 84 gallons of fresh water. We bring some bottled water in the cooler for drinking, (beverage of choice in the evening is not water )
We take quick showers. Basicly, we just conserve water and never had a problem using it all. I bring 2 coolers to stock up on drinks, and a bring 2 gas cans to make sure I have enough fuel for generator.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the info; will keep the water fill a guarded secret. I am bringing 3 other Nascar fans with me, one has never been to a race yet. Do they, the track camping facilities, have a bathhouse/washroom unit where you pay $ for a pass for the time your camping? I have camped at many tracks and not had a problem with holding tanks but with 3 guys I'm not sure. If my wife and I go we last 5 days no problem. I'm picking up a 30 gallon plastic food grade barrel as a water contaner. We will try to camp in the North lot, as long as the 5th can be fairly level. I was informed that the sites are 18x40 which should allow the slides and awning to be out. Hope to have a beverage with whom ever drops by. Camping at the track sure has changed over the last 20 years. Tracks we have camped at: Mosport; Cayuga; Delaware; Barrie;Peterboough,Ontario;Oswego,NY;WatkinsGlen,N Y;Sandusky,OH;Michigan;Loudon;Pocono;Lancaster,NY; Richmond;Charlotte, & Concord,NC; Richmond, V; Bristol, T; Nashville,T; MyrtleBeach,SC;Rockingham,NC;& Daytona!!!both races, sure was hot that last race of the Kings; and hoping for more.

they have a bath house on the hill above the north lot it is free but gets crowded (another secert best time to go is around midnight or later nobody around!!:cool:you have the place to your self)there is a dump station there also and a honey dipper drives thru all day $25-30 cant rember there is a water fill there too but in Oct. the well went so it might be working in March

Being that its March and most likely chilly, you won't go through near as much water as you probably would say at Bristol in August. This weekend used to be the date as the Bristol race which was actually snowed out a couple of years ago (the Busch race that is). Brrrrr.

Hi everybody looking for some info; The last 4 years we have camped in the North Lot for the Spring race. But due to me switching job and being a complete dummie. I forgot to make the needed reservations. I am looking for any info about private camping at THE "PaperClip". Good or bad doesn't matter. Just want to know which one to avoid. Thanks

Alright I have been tasked by my friend to see if we can rent an RV somewhere and then park it somewhere around Martinsville for at least Saturday's and Sunday's Races. I am his best man for his wedding and this is what he wants instead of a traditional bachelor party, me, him, and 4 other guys will go to the races and stay there for the weekend. We are all stationed at Fort Benning Georgia, and would have to rent something there or along the way and drive it. He just had major surgery, so tent camping is out but he would rather an RV by the track then a hotel. I do not have tickets yet and I am just starting my planning. All 6 of us are combat veterans and 3 have been wounded so if anyone knows of some place that offers military discounts or if there is some deals somewhere. Fort Benning MWR does not have any RVs to rent, and I sent an email to Fort Lee VA, and Fort Bragg NC to ask. Also, the Martinsville website is not very descriptive about parking and camping. None of us have ever been to this track and this wedding is sort of last minute because some of us have to deploy again. He will not be ready when Atlanta comes and then nothing is close enough before the April 19th Wedding. Thank you for any information.

I would love to do Bristol and we have friends in knoxville already but he just had about a foot of his large intestine removed last week and he is afraid he will not be able to enjoy it, Martinsville gives him an extra 2 weeks, and Doc's said he should be able to eat Brats from the Grill and drink some beer by then. I can't book anything until Friday night after he goes to the Doc and then I will know for sure what he can do. Thank you for the advice though. I have heard nothing but the best about Bristol and it is on my someday list!

Earhlr,
Try CruiseAmerica.com. They have locations throughout the country and I'm sure you could find a unit for rent between Georgia and Virginia. If you cared to take a little detour to the Charlotte area, they have a multiple RV rental places (like rentmervamerica.com). The internet is your best bet for finding and booking a unit. For tickets, there are always tix for sale on Sunday for the races between the scalpers and various race fans (even ebay). There are places I know of where you could probably find a spot to park for Saturday and Sunday. Send me a pm for details.

For those that tent camp, I have never camped in the surrounding speedway grounds, but I do stay at B&D Campsites, which MartinsvilleSpeedway.com lists as an accomdation on their website. Their phone number is 276- 956-2951...give them a call to see their availability for tent and other RV camping.

The lot is actually 2 miles by road from the speedway. Down Old Sand Road (between the Wendy's and Bojangles close to the speedway) and then down on Eggleston Falls Road. Its been a great site for me and my buds for the past three years. I believe that is $50 for the weekend to tent camp.

You other NascarCamping.com members let me know if you're going stay there...I'll save you a beverage!:D

Stayed in a lot next to the Winn Dixie across the street from the track on Rte 220, 1/4 mile walk at best. $75.00 for the stay and a few port a johns at the old Lowes or just use the fast food joint in front. Made it quite easy to get provisions from the Winn Dixie and right out about two hours after the race was over. I always get water at any gas station upon arrival and have never had a problem filling from a spigot.

I'm way off the beaten trail and not that close to the speedway. B&D Campsites out Eggleston Falls Road, which is reached by Old Sand Road (the road that runs between the Bojangle's on the left side and Wendy's on the right side).

Probably see y'all when I get close to the track during the day!!!!
